Dancing With The Stars-Episode One 09-12-06 and Results
We begin another season of this wildly popular show pretty much the same as always. Tom and Samantha are back as the hosts, although I don’t know why ABC brought Samantha back. I would have preferred a different host and had heard rumors that Lisa Rhinna would be possibly hosting but I guess for some reason, ABC wanted Samantha. Oh well, I guess we can’t have it all. The judges are the same which is ok. I kind like Bruno, as he adds some comic relief when needed.
The line-up of talent for this year looked like it would be very good. I don’t know of anyone that has any professional dance experience (Stacey Keibler) but the season is young and I am sure some super sleuths will dig something up.
The girls looked impressive with the exception of Shanna Moakler and Sara Evans. I have to say if Shanna was a Miss USA winner, she has sure let herself go. Now understand, I can say this because I am not a small person so it’s not like I am a skinny minny being catty, but d**n she does not look like beauty queen material to me. And the gold dress she chose did nothing for her. The white feather stuff on the dress was way too much. But hey, I know it is a dancing contest, so to comment on her dancing I thought she did not do a good job. Vivica Fox was really good tonight. The only thing I did not like was Vivica’s hair. That big purple flower was too much. But I loved the purple dress…..WOW. She did an amazing job on the dancing…she was on fire.
I have to say I though Sara Evans was better than the judges gave her credit for, but then again I am not a professional judge. Her powder blue dress was beautiful. I am sure she must have felt out of her element being a country music singer. Will Ford, someone I don’t know, was decent. About all I can say as nothing stood out except for that hideous orange dress. Monique Coleman from High School Musical was very good. Did not like the light pink dress though. She would have looked better in a different color. I expect once we get to some of the faster numbers we will see better things out of her. My daughter loved her and had me on the phone dialing up the number to vote for her, as I am sure every other 10-year old was doing.
The guys were somewhat surprising. Although we all knew Slater, Mario Lopez, would do well, I was really surprised at how good Emmitt Smith and Joey Lawrence did. As for Jerry Springer and Tucker Carlson, no surprise there. Bruno was in rare form when he asked Mario if he had an extra batteries in his pants….I almost hit the floor laughing so hard. Tucker Carlson sat in a chair for most of his dance and to tell you the truth he should have stayed in the chair. He was awlful. Jerry Springer was not much better but he did surprise me. I expected worse. I think Jerry will try to be the funnyman this year. Not sure if he can pull it off though. Harry Hamlin was very stiff and ridgid. Surprised me as I thought his wife Lisa would have worked with him and gotten him ready. The only dance that stood out for me was Emmitt Smith dancing to Son of a Preacher Man. Emmitt was lighter on his feet than I expected and was an overall delight.
The results were pretty much predictable and I was glad they went the way they should. Tucker was eliminated, as he should have been. No repeat of last year when Master P skated through on popularity. Emmitt Smith was awarded with the encore performance for this week and he rightfully deserved it. Well, that’s it for my take on the first show. The front runners, in my book, are Mario and Vivica. I expect we will see those two go far if not all the way. Until next week……
