Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 6:11am, newlyweds Rob & Amber opened their clue instructing them to fly to over 800 miles to Punta Arenas, Chile and find Lord Lonsdale's Shipwreck.
At the Puerto Montt Airport, Rob & Amber secured tickets on a 9:40am flight to Punta Arenas and then, always trying to gain any advantage possible, went to a nearby computer to research the location of Lord Lonsdale's Shipwreck. As the couple hunted online for information, married couple Uchenna & Joyce, dating couple Eric & Danielle, best friends Oswald & Danny, and beauty queens Dustin & Kandice also booked seats on the 9:40am flight to Punta Arenas.
Arriving at the airport in sixth place, married parents Teri & Ian received the troubling news that the 9:40am flight to Puerto Montt was fully booking meaning they would have to take the later flight at 11:15am. After some begging and pleading, the married parents caught a huge break when seats opened on the 9:40am flight which put life partners Joe & Bill and cousins Charla & Mirna alone on the 11:15am flight. Joe remarked, "Bill and I constantly get nervous when we're gonna fall to last place. You just don't want to be way back behind everybody else."
MAGELLAN MAYHEM
Landing in Punta Arenas at 11:50am, newlyweds Rob & Amber as usual set the pace exiting the airport taking with them directions to the shipwreck that a flight attendant accidentally gave to Rob instead of Uchenna who asked for them. At Lord Lonsdale's Shipwreck, Rob & Amber, along with the other Teams, opened their clue to find a Detour having to choose between Navigate It and Sign It. In Navigate It, Teams had to use a map of Punta Arenas to get to the town plaza where a sailor would hand them a compass. Then, using the compass, the Teams needed to walk directly south to find the Nautilus Building, a deep-sea salvage business. In Sign It, Teams had to choose a pole and building supplies and carry them up a flight of stairs to Magellan's Map. Using the map as a reference, Teams needed to figure out his journey around the world began and ended in Seville. Then, they had to build a traditional local signpost listing in order the fourteen ports of call in his voyage. While the signs didn't have to point in the right direction, all the cities had to be spelled correctly.
Rivals Rob & Amber and Uchenna & Joyce began the complicated task of building the signpost with Dustin & Kandice while Teri & Ian, Oswald & Danny, and Eric & Danielle all set off on foot in search of the sailor with a compass. Apparent history buff Rob got a jump on the competition by knowing that Magellan began in Seville while Uchenna & Joyce incorrectly assumed he began in Guam since it appeared at the end of the map. However, Rob's good start took a bad turn when he misspelled Philippines on a placard by adding an extra L and omitting a P.
NAVIGATE TO THE LEAD
As the three Teams struggled to figure out the signpost, dating couple Eric & Danielle used their compass to easily navigate to the Nautilus Building. Opening their clue, they learned they needed to return to the airport and sign up for one of two charter flights leaving three hours apart to Ushuaia, Argentina, 165 miles away, and find Playa Larga Beach. The dating couple secured seats on the first charter flight with the other two Teams who chose the navigation Detour, Oswald & Danny and a thrilled Teri & Ian who finally moved to the front of the pack.
As the second flight landed in Punta Arenas carrying cousins Charla & Mirna and life partners Joe & Bill, Rob & Amber still failed to see their mistake in the misspelling of Philippines while Uchenna & Joyce correctly assumed the order of their signpost was incorrect and began switching city names. However, Dustin & Kandice lagged behind both Teams by thinking that the direction the arrows on the placards pointed made a difference. Going back to the map, Uchenna & Joyce finally identified Seville as the start city to earn their clue as a frustrated Rob remained baffled. Equally as confused and concerned about wasted time, Dustin & Kandice asked Rob & Amber if they wanted to switch tasks together since the other plane already landed.
CARRYING HER WEIGHT
As the newlyweds and beauty queens raced off to navigate, cousins Charla & Mirna began building signposts amid the strewn placards and poles from the Teams who abandoned the task while life partners Joe & Bill opted to navigate the streets of Punta Arenas. Mirna barked out orders for an overwhelmed Charla to carry materials up the steep stairs, shouting, "You're going too slow!" A frustrated Charla dropped her box of placards, replying, "I can't go any faster, please!" Not wanting to the subject drop, Mirna continued, "You're wasting a lot of time." Charla, now with the cumbersome pole slung over her shoulder, put it down in complete irritation, asking, "What do you want me to do?" The pair continued this way until they reached the top of the stairs and began constructing the signpost where they quickly realized they chose the wrong task and promptly switched.
After lagging behind early in the leg, life partners Joe & Bill excitedly passed by Rob & Amber and Dustin & Kandice on the streets of Punta Arenas to finish the Detour in fifth place, but their hard work still resulted in being on the second charter flight with the newlyweds and beauty queens along with Uchenna & Joyce and Charla & Mirna. Disappointed in his performance and position on the second charter, Rob commented, "This is ridiculous. What a day."
SPECIAL DELIVERY
Landing in Ushuaia, Argentina at 10:45am, married parents Teri & Ian took a lead out of the airport, but ran right past a yellow and red flag when they exited their taxi at Playa Larga. As Teri & Ian searched through the brush and hillside, Oswald & Danny and Eric & Danielle ran to the cluebox, discovering they had travel by taxi to Bahia La Pataia. At the bay, they would then take a boat leaving twenty minutes apart carrying two Teams maximum to the post office on Isla Redonda, also known as the End of the World as it is the southern most tip of South America.
Arriving at the post office at the End of the World together in first place, Eric & Danielle and Oswald & Danny opened their clue to find a Roadblock. In it, one Team member had to sort through a full mail bag of 1600 envelopes to find one of two letters addressed to their Teams. What Teams did not know was that a Team from their first season on the race wrote the letter. Once they found the letter, they had to read it out loud to their teammate to receive their next clue.
FINALLY FIRST
Oswald and Eric took to the giant mailbags and began sorting through the stacks and stacks of letters. While Danielle pointed out that Eric was good at this because he had luck, Oswald found his envelope first. After reading the letter from brother and sister Blake & Paige, Oswald & Danny opened their clue instructing them to follow the marked trail around the island to the Pit Stop at Mastil de A.R.A. General Belgrano, an overlook situated on the southernmost tip of South America.
After hovering near the top for three legs, best friends Oswald & Danny finally stepped onto the mat in first place. The thrilled pair received even more good news from Phil when he informed them they had won a trip for two from Travelocity to the Royal Lahaina Resort in Maui. Eric & Danielle settled for second place after reading letters from their former partners Jeremy and Dani while Teri & Ian, who received a letter from former winners Flo & Zach, came in third.
TAXI TRICKERY
When the second charter flight landed at 1:50pm, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice, life partners Joe & Bill, and married couple Uchenna & Joyce all exited the airport quickly leaving Charla & Mirna and Rob & Amber without taxis. After asking an attendant to call for one, Charla & Mirna watched as Rob & Amber jumped into the taxi meant for the cousins. As the cousins shouted that they called for the taxi, Rob replied, "You're crazy. We called too." Rob & Amber resorted to trickery once again at Playa Larga when they misdirected Charla & Mirna away from the cluebox. After wasting a few moments looking in a wooded area, the cousins realized that they had been duped. Mirna commented, "As an attorney I can tell when someone is lying to me."
A footrace at Bahia La Pataia resulted in Dustin & Kandice and Joe & Bill securing seats on a boat ahead of Uchenna & Joyce who now had to share a ride to Isla Redonda with Rob & Amber twenty minutes later. Arriving at the dock in last place, Charla & Mirna confronted Amber who played dumb about lying to the cousins about where to find the clue. Amber claimed she was talking to Rob, not the cousins at the Playa Larga and they misunderstood. Mirna remarked, "It was another lie and now we're the last Team on the last boat all alone. We're done."
As Charla & Mirna took to the water in their boat, partners Joe & Bill claimed fourth place after receiving a letter from Season 1 runner-up Frank while beauty queens Dustin & Kandice took fifth along with a note from former nemesis Lyn.
SHOWDOWN AT THE END OF THE WORLD
Joyce and Rob, unsuccessfully sorting through mail for their Teams, looked in shock at the water as cousins Charla & Mirna pulled up to the dock. Now with a chance at catching up, Mirna unloaded her large stack of letters. The tension rose even higher after Joyce found her letter, written by mother and son Susan & Patrick, allowing her and Uchenna to claim sixth place.
Trying to offer advice to her cousin, Charla spoke to Mirna in a language foreign to Rob. When Rob said Charla couldn't do that, Mirna fired back, "Shut the hell up. I said pray to our deceased grandmother to help us. You wouldn't have a clue what that means." Maybe their grandmother came through in the clutch, because Mirna found her letter before Rob and shouted, "Bye, bye baby! See you! Wouldn't want to be you!" For good measure, they addressed Amber as a "lying pregnant dog."
After reading a scathing letter from brothers Marshall & Lance, the cousins began running to the Pit Stop in hopes of beating the newlyweds. Rob found his letter from Susan & Patrick soon after and the footrace to Phil was on. Charla had difficulties moving her small body across the rocky, hilly, terrain as Mirna yelled for her to run. As motivation, Mirna said, "Let's beat the liars. Let's bite karma in the ass." And that's exactly what they did as they stepped onto the mat in seventh place as Uchenna & Joyce cheered them on.
Stepping onto the mat in last place, newlyweds Rob & Amber, after winning three legs in a row, received the shocking, bad news that they had been eliminated from the race. On the experience, Amber commented, "This isn't the end. It might be the end of the race for us, but the fact that we got to come back and do it a second time is pretty spectacular. Just to spend this time with each other means the world to me." Rob added, "I think the thing I'm gonna miss most is not being able to compete, knowing that there's a game going on and I'm not in the game. At the end of it all, I still have an amazing wife, a great life, a great family. I'm a lucky guy. I'm already a winner."
