Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 12:28am, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice opened their clue instructing them to fly over 1,500 miles to Hong Kong and travel 22 miles by taxi to Sun Wah Kiu Laundry.
Upon arriving at the empty, closed airport, the beauty queens did some quick investigation to learn that China Air would be the earliest flight departing at 8:00am and arriving in Hong Kong at 11:55am. The next fastest would be Malaysian Air, departing at 9:15am and arriving at 12:55pm. However, the Malaysian Air counter opened at 4 am while the China Air counter didn't open until 5:00am, so the beauty queens chose to camp out at Malaysian Air.
Seeing the beauty queens sitting at the Malaysian Air counter, best friends Oswald & Danny chose to walk down to the China Air office. While down there, they walked into the Malaysian Air office, a separate entity from the counter, and placed their name on the waitlist ahead of Dustin & Kandice, who sat idly at the closed counter. When the counter opened at 4:00am, the beauty queens put their names on standby with dating couple Eric & Danielle.
Meanwhile, in an office down below at 4:45am, Oswald & Danny, along with cousins Charla & Mirna, cheered the arrival of a China Air employee, who quickly went to work to secure them tickets on the 8:00am flight. While they couldn't get on the flight right away, their names were placed on the standby list ahead of Dustin & Kandice and Eric & Danielle, who talked to agents at the counter. In an important piece of business, Oswald & Danny promised Charla & Mirna that if they made the China Air flight, they would give their standby reservation on Malaysian Air to the cousins.
MIRNA MAKES A DEAL
As the Teams waited to learn their fate for a spot on the China Air flight, Charla & Mirna approached Eric & Danielle, saying, "We've been screwed over one too many times by the bubbly giggly girls." Mirna offered a final three composed of themselves, Eric & Danielle, and Oswald & Danny, adding, "Whatever it takes." After Mirna and Eric shook on the deal, Mirna added, "It's going to be a fun final three."
At 7:30am, the wait finally ended and the very lucky Oswald & Danny were the only Team to receive tickets on the 8:00am China Air flight, giving them a huge advantage over the other Teams. They stuck to their word and offered their standby reservation code for the Malaysian Air flight to Charla & Mirna, explaining, "We gave Charla & Mirna our standby code for Malaysia Airlines because they have shared information with us. Again, it goes back to the whole issue of karma."
After a mad dash to the Malaysian Air counter, Charla & Mirna asked for the reservation with Oswald & Danny's confirmation code over the protests of Dustin & Kandice, who claimed they were ahead of the cousins on the standby list. The confrontation heated up as Dustin sniped about Mirna, "She wins the pushy award of the year." Not one to back down, Mirna replied, "Good luck, Yield Queens. Good luck", which prompted Kandice to note, "[Mirna's] so manipulative." All the fighting and arguing amounted to very little as both Teams made it onto the crowded flight, but Mirna's antics weren't easily forgotten as Dustin suggested, "We can make a beauty queen sandwich out of her."
While the beauty queens locked horns with Mirna, dating couple Eric & Danielle made a huge tactical mistake by exchanging money instead. By the time they arrived at the Malaysian Air counter, the flight was completely booked, forcing them to buy tickets on a flight that wouldn't land in Hong Kong until 3:20pm, over two hours behind the other Teams. Danielle joked, "The standby fairy doesn't like us, apparently, so we're absolutely dead last."
CRASH LANDING
Landing in Hong Kong with a sizable lead, Oswald & Danny's only troubles stemmed from a cash shortage as they paid their taxi at Sun Wah Kiu Laundry. After Danny negotiated a discount on the fare, the best friends opened their clue to find the second of two Fast Forwards on the race. In this Fast Forward, Teams had to travel five miles to a film set where a high-speed stunt was being filmed for an action movie. When they arrived, they had to get in a car with a professional stunt driver and participate in an action-packed stunt sequence.
As Oswald & Danny began suiting up at the movie set, showing serious signs of trepidation, Charla & Mirna arrived at Sun Wah Kiu Laundry to find a Detour requiring them to choose between "Kung Fu Fighting" and "Lost in Translation." In Kung Fu Fighting, Teams had to travel five miles to Tonkin Street and find a nearby building. Once there, they had to climb up an 11-story bamboo scaffold while avoiding an ongoing battle between stunt kung fu experts to reach the top and retrieve their next clue. In Lost in Translation, Teams needed to make their way four miles to Kowloon City and find Nga Tsin Wai Road. Once there, they had to search among hundreds of similar-looking Chinese signs for the specific sign shown in a photo in their clue. When they matched the photo with the correct store sign, the owner would hand them their next clue. After initially choosing to scale the building, the cousins decided to head over to Lost in Translation while the beauty queens jumped at the once-in-a-lifetime chance to kung fu fight in Hong Kong.
After putting on all the required protective gear, Danny seemed excited at the prospect of being in a high-speed stunt, while Oswald began to stress out. As he got buckled in, Oswald instructed the driver, "You have to do a good job here. My mother wants me back." With Danny laughing at his friend, Oswald continued, "If I wet these pants, they're the only clean pair of pants that I brought." After the engine revved, the white car carrying the excited and nervous best friends squealed its tires as it headed straight for the ramp. Oswald & Danny hung on for dear life as the car flew through the air before landing on its side, skidding across the pavement. When the car came to a stop right side up again, the thrilled pair exited the car unscathed and opened their clue instructing them to drive to the next Pit Stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club with their Travelocity gnome.
As the indecisive cousins changed their minds again about the Detour, the beauty queens arrived at Tonkin Street to find kung fu fighters perched upon the bamboo scaffolding. After putting on their gear and harness, Dustin & Kandice slowly began climbing the latticework as kung fu fights went on around them. In order to keep moving up the ladder, Dustin used a kick of her own to fend off would be attackers. When the duo finally reached the top, they received their next clue instructing them to take the Star Ferry across to Hong Kong Island and then travel four miles by taxi to an abandoned building, an old police headquarters.
Arriving at Tonkin Street after the beauty queens, Charla & Mirna tackled the bamboo scaffold with the same gusto seen throughout the race. Mirna joked, "One day kung fu fighting. One day fighting beauty queens." After delivering a few karate chops, Mirna reached the top along with Charla, who muscled her way up with no problems at all. Mirna later remarked, "Charla is here to prove on the race that she can break down what people's expectations are of her." Their cheers turned to worry, however, after their taxi driver took them over the bridge all the way to Hong Kong Island where they took a ferry back to Kowloon, the place they began the afternoon. Now having to take the ferry back to Hong Kong Island, the cousins worried that last-place Eric & Danielle, en route to the Detour, could catch up.
HIGH KICKING
At the abandoned police headquarters, Dustin & Kandice opened their clue to find a Roadblock. In it, one teammate had to kick down doors in the building until they find the room with their next clue. The dancer with the very long legs, "Kicking Kandice," went to work busting down doors until she came across the clue instructing her and Dustin to drive five miles to Victoria Park. Once there, they needed to find the model boat pond and Travelocity Roaming Gnomes on model junks. Then, in a local tradition practiced by Hong Kong children, they had to pull the junk across the pond to receive their next clue.
After spending their very last dollar to pay a highway toll, best friends Oswald & Danny arrived at the Hong Kong Jockey Club to claim first place. For their efforts, host Phil Keoghan awarded the best friends a trip to Hong Kong in Travelocity's biggest travel package this season on the race.
When the beauty queens arrived at Victoria Park, they slowly began leading the model junk across the smooth water of the pond, careful not to topple the Roaming Gnome into the water. After successfully pulling the junk over to them, they opened the clue directing them to the Pit Stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
DOWN TO THE WIRE
As Dustin & Kandice claimed second place, the diminutive Charla began kicking down doors, explaining how her strong legs helped her in the task. While her mighty legs helped topple the doors, Charla couldn't find the clue in any of the rooms as Eric & Danielle easily climbed to the top of the scaffolding on the cousins' tail.
After Charla finally found the clue, the cousins maintained a slim lead over the dating couple, but they had difficulties finding Victoria Park in the crowded city. While Eric & Danielle made a race out of it, Charla & Mirna managed to hang on by pulling their gnome across the pond as the dating couple made a crucial wrong turn that cost them dearly.
Stepping on the mat in last place, dating couple Eric & Danielle expected to finally hear the bad news that had loomed over their heads for several legs. Instead, Phil informed the thrilled couple that this was a non-elimination leg so now they would be marked for elimination. Danielle commented, "This race is really important to me, and I want to show that I'm stronger than people think I am. Being marked for elimination right now is scary, but I want to make it to the top three, and I want to win."
