PLAYING CATCH UP
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 2:15am, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice discovered they needed to fly over 7,500 miles to the island of Guam and then drive nine miles to Andersen Air Force Base. Due to military security, the Teams would then select a military escort to drive them to an air traffic control tower where they had to climb the stairs to find their next clue on top.
Arriving at the airport, the beauty queens did their research and bought tickets on a Cathay Pacific flight departing at 9:05am, connecting through Tokyo, which would land in Guam at 9:50pm. After securing their seats, Dustin & Kandice walked away from the counter as cousins Charla & Mirna and dating couple Eric & Danielle purchased tickets for the same flight. The beauty queens lamented, "The beauty of being first. We do all the work and they go, 'I'll have what they had.'"
Last place Oswald & Danny, marked for elimination, arrived at the airport frantically running to make the flight the other three Teams already boarded. The duo's hopes were crushed initially as the plane soared away, but an agent informed them the 10:15am flight to Tokyo would also connect to the plane landing in Guam at 9:50pm. However, they received a warning that they had only 45 minutes to make the connection in Tokyo.
While the best friends flirted with disaster, Oswald & Danny ran through the terminal in Tokyo to board the connection to Guam with only moments to spare. Noting the other three Teams disappointment at seeing them, Oswald quipped, "We're not sure whether we landed in Japan or in Alaska, because we felt the cold breeze, freezing cold, but we don't care."
TOP GUNS
Landing in Guam, Oswald & Danny took a lead out of the airport followed by cousins Charla & Mirna only to find out that military escorts wouldn't arrive to take them to the air traffic control tower on Andersen Air Force Base until 7:00am. When the escorts arrived the next morning, the Teams raced to the tower where they found a Detour having to choose between Care Package and Engine Care. In Care Package, Teams made their way to a warehouse to take part in an Air Force humanitarian relief effort by filling a box with 500 pounds of essential supplies for locals on neighboring islands. Once their box reached 500 pounds of supplies, Teams would board a massive C-17 cargo plane for a one in a lifetime opportunity to experience an official Air Force airdrop exercise. When they returned to the ground the Load Master would hand them their next clue. The task required relatively little physical activity, but the training exercise took roughly thirty minutes to complete. In Engine Care, Teams had to scour a B-52 bomber by choosing an engine pod, with its sail and wing flap, and washing it clean. Once the Senior Air Force Maintenance Officer was satisfied with their job, he would hand them their next clue.
As Eric & Danielle, Dustin & Kandice, and Oswald & Danny all opted to use a little elbow grease to make our nation's fleet of B-52 bombers sparkle, Charla & Mirna wanted to lend a hand to those less fortunate than themselves. After throwing in a wide array of items from food and clothing to mathematic books, the cousins reached the required weight of 500 pounds allowing them to board the enormous C-17 cargo plane to make their airdrop.
As the cousins took to the air for their humanitarian effort, the three Teams on the ground needed plenty of effort to clean the large wing flap, pitch black with dirt. After a maintenance officer pointed out a dirty spot on the beauty queens' wing, Kandice joked, "There's no charming the sergeant. The sergeant was all about business. We weren't getting anywhere with a smile. We had to scrub." While Eric & Danielle and Oswald & Danny kept scrubbing and scouring, Dustin & Kandice's cleaning skills earned the seal of approval from the United States Air Force. Opening their next clue, the beauty queens discovered they needed to drive 21 miles to the U.S. Naval Base Guam where a naval escort would drive them to the next Route Marker.
Scrubbing equally as hard, Eric & Danielle finished cleaning the bomber right behind the beauty queens followed by Oswald & Danny in third place. When their cargo plane touched back down after launching their supplies, cousins Charla & Mirna already were in last place leaving the Air Force Base. Mirna commented, "We're worried because it's the final elimination before the final three, a race 'til the end. We don't want to finish today. It's so awful."

Pulling into the U.S. Naval Base alone in first, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice selected their escort who drove them to their next clue, a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one Team member had to take part in a naval search and rescue training exercise. Using a hand held GPS device, they needed to navigate through the jungle and locate one of four Search & Rescue training officers. The officer would then program additional information into their GPS unit for finding a new course to a clearing in the jungle. Once there, the Team member had to call a helicopter to request "extraction," set off a smoke grenade to signal their exact position and wait to be picked-up and returned to their teammate.
Dustin suited up in her military gear, grabbed her GPS device and began walking along the base in search of one of the four officers. Following the arrow on the GPS, she likened the mission to "searching for your Easter basket." Soon, Danielle and Charla joined Dustin in the search as a lost Oswald & Danny found directions to the base. After Dustin located her pilot and started walking to the clearing, Danielle couldn't locate hers even though the GPS told her he was directly in front of her. She couldn't see him in the dense brush and kept walking past, but eventually she found her man and headed to the clearing as well. Meanwhile, poor Charla didn't know how to operate the GPS device very well allowing Oswald, who finally began the task, an opportunity to catch up.
Arriving at the clearing, Dustin radioed for a helicopter, tossed her smoke grenade and waited to be picked up. A thrilled Dustin enjoyed her ride in the military helicopter and returned to Kandice where the pair opened their clue instructing them to drive 11 miles to the Pit Stop at Fort Soledad, a 19th Century fortification built to protect Spanish galleons from pirates.
As Charla, Danielle, and Oswald all struggled to use their GPS devices, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice arrived at Fort Soledad to claim another first place finish. Phil informed the excited pair that, along with an appearance in the final three, they had each won an all-terrain vehicle. Phil joked with the happy beauty queens, "Do you have any idea how many toys you guys now have?"
END OF THE ROAD
While Danielle began crying as she panicked over finding the landing zone. Charla and Oswald still hadn't even found their pilot. Eventually, Danielle realized that hitting the buttons on the side of the GPS device threw off her reading. This discovery allowed her to get back on track just as Charla and then Oswald, who walked directly by many times, locate their pilots. Oswald joked to the pilot, "How much do I not like you?"
As Eric & Danielle sped away to a second place finish, the race for the last spot in the final three boiled down to Oswald & Danny and Charla & Mirna. While the cousins took a lead out of the U.S. Naval Base, they went in the complete opposite direction forcing them to turn around. The tension rose with so much at stake, but the cousins pulled through by stepping onto the mat in third place and celebrated with a very loud cheer.
Arriving at Fort Soledad in last place, best friends Oswald & Danny received the bad news from Phil that they had been eliminated from the race. After pledging their support for Charla & Mirna who they called a "class act", the best friends reflected on the race and their friendship. Oswald commented, "We ran the race the way we wanted to run it. We had an amazing time doing it. There will be many chapters written about Oswald & Danny and the Amazing Race happens to be a paragraph." Danny added, "To be able to go through this and survive it twice leads me to believe that I will have Oswald in my life always. He'll be pushing the wheelchair as I'm going into the home, the gay nursing home that I'm going to open up." Oswald quipped, "Hopefully by then he won't speak so much that he'll be interrupting me every time I say something."
