The Apprentice - Martha Stewart
Episode 9
I have to apologize if I seem a little somber tonight. I just wasn’t into the show this week. My mom had surgery on Tuesday and for the second time in a week the dumb ass nurses almost killed her. So, I will be a little on the worried side until she is released.
Now on to the show……
We begin with Dawna returning to the loft talking about how horrible it was in the conference room. Horrible?
? What is she talking about. The conference room reminds me of Romper Room. If she thinks the conference room is horrible, she better never try out for Trump Apprentice…..now his boardrooms can get a little dicey. Once Dawna sees Jim and Bethany return from the firing, she is relieved. Apparently Dawna was taking hurting Bethany a little more serious than Bethany was taking Dawna betraying her. Hormones!
The next morning the contestants are greeted by Martha via the tele…..Of course she is at MSLO and promoting her flare for color…..another apparent advertising plug…..This weeks task would be to sell a fancy hot beverage making machine…..the Tassimo. With $40,000 to work with and existing stores to sell from they should have some pretty nice promos going.
Project Managers for this week are Jim and Marcella. I think this is a no brainer with Jim winning big. Marcella is just too wishy washy. She can not and will not make a decision on her own. She wants everyone to talk about it make a group decision . Sorry honey, that mindset is for when you are an employee not a boss. The boss makes the decisions. Of course a good boss listens first then makes decisions. Marcella was jumping straight to decision making.
Back over at Primarius, Jim and Bethany are already showing that they are a team with Dawna thrown in for kicks. She makes a very good point about hiring a PR firm to get the word out and to help in this task as three people would not be able to do it well enough to win by themselves. But Dawna’s mistake was to schedule a meeting with a PR firm without Jim or Bethany’s imput. Plus she attended the meeting and negeotiated a price without the PM’s ok. I don’t care how good you think you are, you never spend the boss’ money without permission. Let’s hope the gamble paid off.
Over at Matchstick, we have the very timid Marcella trying to run things. Notice I said trying….lol. She had no chance in hell of Ryan and Amanda paying attention to her. Amanda was a lost cause from the get go. Of course Marcella with her “cooking” background could not see the forest for the trees. Her insistence of having a famous chef come bake pastries may have seemed like a good idea, but who was this “famous” chef. I have never heard of her and I watched Hell’s Kitchen, The Resturant and The Food Network and to this date I don’t know who this famous chef was. Amanda and Ryan immediately did not like this idea. But if you are gonna knock someone’s idea you better have a new idea to present, something Amanda did not have. Ryan on the other hand was thinking along the right lines when he said have a celebrity come out. But Marcella would not hear of it and Ryan was gonna make sure Marcella did not get her famous chef. I found the scene where Marcella learns from Ryan that she would not be getting a famous chef and Charles asked if they had a plan B and Marcella said we are working on it very telling. Can you say doomed…However, I really liked the idea of having “Big girl thingy” as the celebrity for Matchstick. I would have loved to have seen Martha’s face when she found out that “Big girl thingy” would be on her show….rotflmao. Their late night meeting to discuss a non-existent marketing plan was a complete waste of time. Apparently Marcella thought you only had to get a famous chef and people would magically appear to see this chef. Of course this meeting did not go drama free. Amanda tried to ask about marketing, but Marcella only wanted to say “but I asked for your help”…..Amanda said the same thing I would have….”Whatever” So needless to say Matchstick planned to go full steam ahead on the famous chef idea with no marketing plan in hand.
Next up: Sales Day. Now I have to admit, Matchstick had a pretty lame idea and no marketing plan, but man their store was crowded. So crowded in fact, that they had to start asking people to wait outside. Of course all I was seeing is a bunch of people drinking free coffee, espresso, latte’s and eating free pastries from their famous chef. I did not see anyone actually purchasing a machine….and wasn’t that the point of the task. Unfortunately Marcella made the chef and the pastries more important than the product they were supposed to be selling.
Over at Primarius, the inside of the store looked like school during the holidays…..deserted! But when we go outside there are a bunch of people standing/sitting around eating cookies. Maybe Primarius’s idea was to give them milk and cookies to lure them into the store. Oh wait a minute, those are the PR company’s employees. The same employees that are supposed to be promoting the store and the product are sitting eating the samples. Hahahahahahaha
Thankfully, Bethany lit a fire under the PR Firm’s ass. I was appalled that she had to tell these people to walk the streets and drum up business. Isn’t that was a PR firm is supposed to be doing….PR (promotions). Geez…..remind me to never call the Lime PR Promotions to handle any work for me. We see Primarius business pick up around the lunchtime hour and looks like they are actually able to unload a few of those hot beverage machines.
We meet in the conference room to find out there was a BIG difference in the sales totals for the teams. Matchstick sold 9 units for $1,891 while Primarius sold 36 units for $6,621. That’s a difference of over $4800….WOW!! I guess the “famous” chef wasn’t able to bake up a win for Matchstick
The reward for Primarius is another really lame one. Another tour of another on of her houses. (Insert required Martha Stewart domestic guru plug here) I guess the boat siteseeing excursion made up for the house tour….maybe a little
Back to the loft, where Marcella looks to be conceding defeat. Jim gives her some pointers on what to say and all of a sudden she is ready to go to battle.
In the conference room we basically get Amanda not wanting to take any blame, Marcella wanting to take all the blame and Ryan getting mad because Marcella said he was not loyal or dishonest. And Leslie is being the smart one…..she did not say a word, so therefore she got to go back to the loft and not have to face possible eviction. Oops were not in the Big Brother house anymore. Possible firing….
Marcella pitches the idea that she wants to tap into the Latino market and wants to help make Martha Stewart the Mexican Martha Stewart. Not a bad way to go at it Marcella. Plus it answered Martha’s question “how do you feel you would fit into my company”. On the flip said, Amanda’s answer to the question………still waiting on that one. She gave some roundabout answer about her background and her love of decorating and gardening….She has no clue. Needless to say, Amanda was let go from the interview process because of her lack of team support. Of course last but not least there is the letter….the letter…what a waste of time…..so much so I am not gonna comment on it…..Lame Lame Lame
Until next week hugs and kisses
