Top Chef didn't waste any time on formalities in its super-sized season premiere.
The contestants all gathered at the home of the late Versace to mix and mingle, have some food and spirits and get to know each other. Or so they thought.....
The newest contestants were surprised with a Quickfire Challenge that demanded the preparation of an amuse bouche. Something that told Tom and Padma a little bit about their culinary personality. All of the chefs rose to the challenge, but Chef Tom found the taste and story behind Micah's morsel the most appetizing. I have to say I was happy when Hung did not win the Quickfire. He is a season 3 version of Marcel from Season 2. One I surely will not like and will love when he gets booted off.
A few of the chefs felt they had something to prove when they got to the Elimination Challenge where they had to work with exotic proteins--some the chefs had never even heard of. Helll I had never heard of some of this stuff and I can assure you I would not eat some of this stuff....lol
What the hell is a geoduck
While Hung's adventurous duo of geoduck and black chicken impressed guest judge Anthony Bourdain, Tre's classical take on his unorthodox meats - ostrich fillet and abalone--was the best, and built his confidence back up after a disappointing Quickfire showing. Again, I was elated when Hung did not win.
Meanwhile, whether it was nerves, or lacking "fundamentals" like the judges suggested, Clay's Southern style just never found its place in the Top Chef kitchen. So it was bye bye to the Southern Fried Cook!
I have to say my faves so far are Tre and Howie and CJ. I know Howie did not get all his food on the plate last night, but I just have a feeling about him and think he will do good. None of the girls are really doing it for me. and being that I am a girl, you would think I naturally pull for the women, but not liking any right now. And as far as Hung goes...well he needs to go now but I know he will stay around to cause drama. His ego is way worse than Marcel and even worse than Stephens from Season 1. And I did not think that was possible. Even thought Stephen thought so highly of himself, I liked him because he did not intentionally sabotage anyone unlike Tiffany and Marcel was just a punk kid. And I think guilty by associatin will do Hung in since he and Marcel are friends.
What's your thoughts....care to dish (pun intended)
so until next week..........
