As many of you remember, last week no loser was named. They were told that they would have to redo the competition again for tonight’s show.
They still must have a “Quickfire Challenge” and tonight’s is the Mise en Place Relay Race. Each chef will compete in a time competition. Casey had problems which allowed the “Garage” team of Sara M., Hung, Howie, and Dale to win. The prize: help from “Season One Stephen's sommelier skills.” Now there was a contestant I could despise!
In addition, Madonna’s brother, Christopher Ciccone, comes in to offer design advice to the teams. They each make adjustments and the competition starts.
The Garage decides to change their name to Quatre and change their menu and image. No more black – I like that. Team April does some adjustments in décor and Brian’s outfit but keeps things pretty much the same. When buying the food and wine, Stephen gives Quartre’s team a wine lesson. Now I remember who I hated him so much!
When the teams start cooking, they meet the guest judge for this week, Geoffrey Zakarian. The teams also learn that Tom will be in the kitchen during the competition. Each team starts their prep. They must serve 30 people.
As the restaurants start to serve, we see that Brian as the April’s front man appears more relaxed. From what little observations we see of him in the kitchen, he has left the cooking to the others. Each of April’s team seem to be working in unison but things aren’t as they appear. Tre seems to be taking the lead role with CJ and Casey doing their job.
Quartro, on the other hand, has Sara M. as executive chef. Sara is not going to take anything off of Howie. When he presents a dish for departure, she stops him and send it back! Way to go Sara! More people should have treated him this way. There also seems to be more arguments in Quartro that April’s area. Tom notes it but standing by his opinion that he is a judge not a mentor, remains quiet.
The judges visit Quartro first and love the food. Dale is doing the upfront man again. He calls Stephen on being a little bit – oh what do I want to say – I’ll just say talkative. Otherwise, he likes what Stephen is doing. Very few of the dishes of Quartro causes problems.
The same can’t be said of April. The judges’ visit here isn’t as successful as April. They don’t like the food. While they hate the dessert, they do think Tre did a good job of presentation.
At the Judges’ Table, we quickly see the way the votes are going. Quartro is declared the winner because they have changed things up which shows they have taken the judges remarks from last week to heart. While all the dishes weren’t 100%, they were very good. Sara N. is declared the winner.
April comes back. The judges have, in private, let us know that they think April went into the competition too confident. They tell them this along with the problems with just about every dish. They analyze the problems. Brian apparently hasn’t contributed enough to the prep or cooking. CJ should have been the leader, but both he and Casey have not really contributed as much as they should. Tre’s dishes had problems. They are sent back to the kitchen to wait while the judges decide who goes home.
Tre leaves us tonight as the problem dishes were his. I hated to see him go because I honestly thought he would win it all.
