Okay, after last week’s show, I thought this was appropriate for Melissa. She either has to have a clear day or get out – it’s up to her to decide! The men just want a clear day and a clear service without fault. The women – well, they need a clear day after being labeled the “pregnant doges from hell.”
Tonight’s episode begins with the usual recap. Even in this we see how bossy Melissa was. Melissa loves to threaten the others. Ramsey is happy when there is a successful service. The twist is shown again as Melissa goes from the “Red Team” to the “Blue Team”.
The men greet Melissa a little sarcastically. Rock is telling her how they run their kitchen and it is different from what she is use to. Jen calls a meeting in the women’s room of the Red Team. The narrator tells us that people aren’t always as they seem. As the cooks wait for the call to the kitchen, they talk about themselves. Jen doesn’t want to tell everything about herself. Rock asks: why would you? Rock knows this is a competition. They leave for the kitchens.
Ramsey is looking at the groups. He has a cover over a table. Melissa is asked about her bonding with her new team. She tells him it is going well. Ramsey tells them that today they will work on lobsters. Julia knows she is in trouble. Bonnie looks disturbed and she tells us that she cries every time she works with lobsters. Bonnie “hates” lobster “but loves to eat it.” Josh is reminded that he couldn’t identify the taste so he will sit the challenge out. He can only advise but not touch the lobster dishes. Each must get a lobster out of the tank. Bonnie is still freaking out. They have one hour to prepare three dishes to impress Ramsey.
Rock quickly gets his team going. Brad has his dish in hand. The girls seem to have trouble getting their lobster. Julia and Jen finally gets them but Bonnie is looking for pans. She’s hoping to get out of it. Unfortunately, for her, she has to go to the tank and get one. She finally gets it out. The lobsters are in the pots in the Red Kitchen. Rock has made decisions about the cooking. They tell Melissa to do a cold lobster dish. The women decide to do a lobster risotto. Jen is leading the Red team. Halfway through, all feel the challenge. Melissa seems to be having trouble but Brad coaches her. One minute and the dishes are ready. The men want to win – they feel they have to win.
Bonnie versus Melissa first and Bonnie’s is grilled lobster and ambitious. He tastes it and says nice. Melissa’s dish is a salad with poach lobster. Ramsey likes the freshness but is slightly disappointed because the lobster is not cooked properly. Bonnie wins that dish. Julia is next with lobster risotto. Ramsey tells her that the lobster is quite tender and intriguing. Risotto is boring and the dish needed needs excitement. Rock is next up. Buttermilk fried lobster tail. Ramsey doesn’t initially seem impressed but decides it is different and creative and very, very good. Rock wins this one. Tie going into the last dish. Jen made lobster bisque. Ramsey tastes it – lobster not too chewy – nice. Brad does a lobster bisque that looks different than Jen’s. His is judged nice too. The last dish is tough. Ramsey is sorry there has to be a loser. He gives the competition to the women. The women will get a photo shoot with Ramsey for In Touch magazine. Hmm! Maybe it WAS a little rigged. That was pathetic. The guys should have won for sure. I mean what is creative about lobster bisque. At least Brad's was not your typical lobster bisque. That was so rigged so Ramsey could have funw ith the girls at the phot shoot. Boo hiss Ramsey, that was a sexist choice for a winner.
While the women are off, the men have to recycle everything in the restaurant’s trash. Rock says he’s never seen anything in a trash can to be recycled and isn’t happy. He’s never been in “trash.” Brad takes the punishment and Ramsey congratulates him for “being a man.” Rock is steamed by the decisions. Brad knows that Rock is mad. Rock is complaining about the lobster soup. There was nothing creative about the women’s lobster soup.
The men go out to the trash can. Instead in a trash bin, the trash is lying out in the open. There are wine bottles, beer cans, etc. They must rinse the recyclable and put them in the bin. And more trash is dumped as the men see the task. The Red Team go out for glamour. Ramsey calls them “divas.” At the magazine, they see the make-up area. There is food and champagne there. Yeah – this was definitely designed for the girls considering what clothes were there.
The women are made to look “beautiful (not).” Jen talks about Ramsey’s hair. Not good to talk about Ramsey’s appearance, Jen. Meanwhile the men are still working in the recycle trash. Rock is called to the photo shoot for some reason – probably to serve the girls. This is adding insult to injury. Ramsey greets Rock and tells him to take the trash bag back to the kitchen with him to be sorted. Rock asks: “Is this what I came for?” And Ramsey sends him on his way after telling Rock that he stinks. I think that was so wrong of Ramsey to humiliate Rock like that.
The girls are posed like Charlie’s Angels. Isn’t this sweet – NOT!!!!
And we see the cover – not that good in my opinion.
Rock arrives back with the trash and he is still mad. Brad states the obvious: it was like rubbing salt in the wound.
The teams must now prepare for dinner service. Rock goes quiet. He’s trying to get his head together and lead his team. Prep begins. The Blue Team gets the first taste of working with Melissa. They think they have got her head together. Rock gives information to Melissa who says she wants to do it perfectly. The Red Team feel confident without Melissa. Julia knows the real test will be when the service begins. Bonnie is freaking out because they have more work to do – ahh!
Ramsey calls the Blue Team out of their kitchen for the warning talk. Bonnie’s grilled lobster salad will be the main dish. The Blue Team must get the lobsters for both kitchen. Melissa is reminded that it her last chance. And the doors are opened.
The orders are being taken. Ramsey gives the first order to the Red Kitchen and they are told 7 minutes to the window. Julia tells the men she needs a lobster. Josh is the lobster ‘pregnant dog.” Rock makes sure Melissa is ready to work with the men. Rock tells her to ask if she has a question. Their first order comes in. Seven minutes to window.
Julia says it is a big help to have someone get the lobster. She just wishes they had been dead. Jen tells Ramsey that it is five seconds to the window. The color of the food is good and appetizers are out. Brad takes his first one to windows. They are out to a bad start. Ramsey tells them to stop panicking.
Bonnie thinks Jen is great on appetizers. Ramsey congratulates the women on their communication. Red Teams are leaving their customers hungry for more. The Blue Kitchen’s customers are asking for food. Melissa is definitely on Ramsey’s “hot seat.”
Red Kitchen has 28 of 50 appetizers out. They are on a roll. Ramsey keeps complimenting them. All of a sudden, Bonnie starts a fire in the kitchen. Not good, Bonnie!
Bonnie doesn’t know what to do with the fire, and Ramsey deals with it. Ramsey isn’t too happy with that. Ramsey then turns to the Blue Kitchen for something good. He doesn’t like their mashed potatoes – too runny. Josh is scattered and not focused. The Red Kitchen is still working well together. The customers like their food. Brad is up. His risotto is still over cooked. Brad feels he was screwed by Melissa.
The Red Kitchen is still ahead. Julia is getting flushed. Ramsey tells Julia to stop and listen. Julia is upset because Ramsey is going off on her. The Blue Kitchen has their fish up. Melissa brought up an overcooked fish. Brad and Rock are called and Melissa’s mistake is pointed out. Melissa has only one fish left. Ramsey puts Rock on the fish. Melissa is told to get off of that line. She can’t understand why Ramsey is yelling at her. The Red Kitchen is up to their last two tickets. Bonnie says that Julia is having trouble keeping up. Julia starts to cry and walks away. Ramsey is running out of patience with the Red Team because of the sniping. Melissa is looking for mashed potatoes in the Blue Kitchen who is having an order returned because the lobster is overdone. Ramsey orders the Blue Kitchen to “shut it down.”
The Blue Team loses – and called “crap” by Ramsey. He goes down the line and asks them their position. Ramsey tells them that they have just been beaten by a nanny, short order cook, and pastry chef. Brad is told that he had his worse service. Josh hasn’t had a strong service yet. Ramsey wants the Blue Kitchen to come up with two nominees. They meet. Rock asks if there are volunteers to go up before Ramsey. Melissa won’t volunteer. She knows it is her worse performance but she knows she is gone if she goes up. Brad asks the criteria that should be used to determine who leaves. Melissa knows that she will go up. They decide to do it on an overall basis. Josh says he hasn’t had that bad a service but that is not how Ramsey sees it. He knows if it is he and Melissa it could go either way.
They enter and Melissa looks mad! Ramsey asks the team if it was difficult to come to a decision. Ramsey tells them to cut the crap when they start their answer. He calls Melissa forward and tells her to take her jacket off and leave Hell’s Kitchen. He has given her more chances than anyone but there will be no more. He yells get out! Melissa thinks she is out because she didn’t perform. Rock says that it was rough on Melissa.
Ramsey isn’t done with the Blue Team yet. Brad and Josh are told to step forward. Ramsey asks them why they should stay. Josh says he has improved with each service. Brad is called by Ramsey on his poor performance. Brad says he has never been that embarrassed before. Ramsey thinks back to the service. He tells both Brad and Josh to get back in line and gives them one more chance.
The teams are now three and three. Brad and Josh are both determined to do a good service and will put on their game face. They are determined to show what they can do. Julia says the little Waffle House cook is still there and she wants to continue. Bonnie is gloating over the women’s win again and being a little diva.
Ramsey gives us insight into the releasing of Melissa. She comes across as a leader but doesn’t cook like one.
Next on Hell’s Kitchen: Payback for Ramsey with what looks like a paint ball competition. The cooking competition is more intense. Blue Team’s menu versus Red Team’s Menu. The women crumble. Ramsey has a secret for Josh– apparently, he can’t cook. Ramsey does something drastic – he yells stop now. And we will have to turn in to see just what the drastic measure is!
