The morning after the second rose ceremony, the Bachelorettes are rudely woken up by a drill sergeant. Host Chris says, "Welcome to Boot Camp!" and tells them that there's one rose on the line this morning and it's up to the drill instructor to decide.
The ladies change into their workout gear as fast as they can and snap to when the drill instructor orders them to make their beds. He even hands a toothbrush to a few unlucky women, who have to scrub the bathroom floor! Nicole takes longer than the rest to get ready and when she finally comes out, the instructor tells her she might as well go back and pack her bags. She dutifully starts to go back inside but he orders her to join the rest of them in line.
He has them jog in place and chant, "I don't know, but I've been told, I am going to get that rose!" Erin, in particular, is upset because this is the second time they're forcing her to exercise. The instructor singles her out for trying to cheat on push-ups. Told to crawl on the ground in an obstacle course, Kate protests, asking, "What about grass stains?" The instructor asks her if she wants clean clothes or a rose and she answers, "Can't I have both?" Meanwhile, Bevin is the model soldier, even standing to attention. When the instructor asks her why she should get Andy, she barks back, military-style, "Because I'm the love of his life, sir!"
She's clearly the standout Boot Camp Bachelorette, until she falls doing the tire obstacle course. She says she's sure she's broken her ankle since she's broken it before. As everyone hovers around her, Andy comes running to her side. He diagnoses a displaced fracture. She's as upset that her time on the show is over as she is about the break, but Andy has a surprise for her: a rose! He says it's not only because she got hurt, but because she was really giving the challenge her all. He accompanies her to the hospital as all the other women contemplate how this affects their chances now.
Host Chris gathers the women and updates them on Bevin's condition: the ankle isn't broken and she'll be back soon. And he tells them about this week's dates: Two group dates and a special two-on-one date.
The first date box is for the two Stephanies Nicole, Amber, and Tina. "Let's spend the day relaxing together, Love Andy." The Bachelorettes ride in a limo with Andy to their destination, Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa. They head to "Club Mud," a red clay treatment pool where they can really get "down and dirty," as Andy says. He starts rubbing the mud on Stephanie from South Carolina first. The other women take turns rubbing mud on Andy and each other and team up to fling mud at Andy but Tina is in the corner by herself. She confesses to the camera that the situation makes her really uncomfortable. "I don't want other women putting their hands all over the man that I'm supposed to be marrying," she says.
Andy and Stephanie from South Carolina still seem very close, constantly touching as they help wash the mud off each other's bodies in the shower.
Privately, Andy confesses that he finds Stephanie very sexy, but he admits that the way she was "all over him" with four other women there was "a little over the top."
Bevin returns to the house on crushes, clutching her rose. Andy not only accompanied her to the hospital, he gave her a Chopard watch, which she happily shows off to the other Bachelorettes.
Back at the spa, the women and Andy sip champagne with their dinner. Since it's her first group date, Stephanie from S.C.'s game plan is to be as aggressive as possible, but her constant attempts to get Andy's attention annoy the other women. Andy gets to decide who will join him for a special double massage and when he selects the other Stephanie, Stephanie from S.C. is visibly upset at his decision. She complains to the other women, who are hardly sympathetic.
Meanwhile, Stephanie from Kansas is really enjoying her alone time with Andy, including getting to give him a massage. After their time together, Andy proclaims her "sweet," and believes he made the right choice.
The second date box arrives. It's for Kate, Danielle, Erin and Amanda. The note reads, "Ladies... start your engines!"
Tessa and Peyton realize their names are not on the list, so the two of them will be going on the two-on-one date with Andy. Peyton worries that one of them will end up with a rose and the other one will be sent home that night.
Bevin has to stay behind, resting her foot, since she's not exactly up for driving a race car at the moment. The rest take a bus to the racetrack, where Amanda confesses she used to drive as fast as 120 mph to get home in time for curfew.
Before the race, Andy gets some alone time with the women. After being a bad sport at the triathlon, Erin is eager to convince him she's not prissy and that the only thing she likes more than fast cars is going to a shooting range. Andy, who's holding her tightly around the waist, is pleasantly surprised and makes a note to go shooting with her sometime.
Danielle brings up her late boyfriend again and tells Andy she believes in fate and things happening for a reason. She tells him how her mom helped get her through her loss and he says that hearing that puts his mind at ease, since family is very important to him.
Andy lays out the rules for the race: penalty for hitting any cones and whoever gets the best time, wins. And he'll be riding along with each of them.
Amanda goes first and finishes with a time of 53 seconds. Danielle has a time of 54 seconds, but Andy likes seeing the enthusiastic side of her that racing brings out. Kate goes for broke, not caring how many cones she takes out along the way. She finishes with just over 53 seconds and Andy confesses she "scared the bejesus out of me" but that he respects her full-throttle attitude. When it's Erin's turn, she stalls out. It turns out she can't drive stick! Her final time is a not-so-terrible 57 seconds.
Because of her willingness to try new things, Andy chooses Erin for the "special alone time" after the group date. They drive off in his silver sports car, with Andy at the wheel this time. He tells her he really likes her and wants to make sure she feels the same. "Absolutely!" is her answer. She admits she's shy and that the group situations make it hard for her to come out of her shell. She says she wants to stay, but that she's not comfortable being competitive with other women.
The last date box, a duffel bag, arrives with a note for Tessa and Peyton. As they feared, there will be only one rose and. The note from the host says, "One stays and one goes." Inside the bags are sailor hats and a T-shirt that reads "Future sailor's wife." Peyton is upset that she's competing with Tessa, whom she considers a friend, but vows to do whatever it takes to get the rose.
The date is in San Diego, where the women are escorted to a naval aircraft carrier, the USS Midway, which now serves as a museum. He shows them the medical area and an operating room, where mannequins are in the middle of an operation. He asks Peyton what kind of ailment she'd be suffering from if she came to see him and she says, "I have this flutter in my heart." He gets out his stethoscope and listens to her heart. He pronounces her "in need of some love."
A candlelit dinner is laid out for them on the flight deck -- no mess hall chow for these ladies! He tells them he's enjoying living on a yacht but he can't imagine living with so many women, the way they are. They chitchat, Tessa talks about how she loves to ski and has a time share in Tahoe, and then Peyton points out the lonely rose on the table. Andy calls his choice "the bane of my existence" and Peyton admits that it's nerve-wracking.
Back at the house, Nicole says she thinks Andy will choose Peyton to stay. Danielle says she has no idea, but she's rooting for Tessa. They agree that Peyton is more involved and that Tessa has been holding herself back.
Peyton tells him that seeing his passion for his work tonight meant a lot to her. She says she's crazy about him and that she hopes he feels something similar for her.
Andy is concerned about how guarded Tessa is and tries to get her to open up more by talking about her native San Francisco. She admits that she has doubts about the whole process, but not when she's with him. Privately, she says that the fear of rejection is making her shut down, rather than be hurt, but that their solo chat reassured her they do have a connection.
A helicopter lands and Andy announces it's the end of the evening. He goes to get the rose as Tessa and Peyton hug each other in anticipation. He tells them he wishes he had two roses to give, but he only has one, and he offers it to Tessa. He hugs her and escorts her to the helicopter and then he goes to say his goodbye to Peyton. He tells her he thinks she's amazing and that the right man is waiting out there for her somewhere.
To the camera, Andy says he picked Tessa because he considers her "wife material." In the helicopter, they kiss for the first time as Peyton stands alone on the flight deck below.
Andy prepares for the thingytail party, and to say goodbye to two more women. After saying goodbye to Peyton, he admits it's going to be tough.
He asks Amanda her to tell him about her most romantic evening and she says it has to be the group date from the other evening, even though they weren't alone. He reveals to the camera that she's definitely his type, but he's getting frustrated trying to get her to open up to him.
In front of the other women, Tina asks Andy about his flaws. He says the biggest one is that he's really hard on himself and that he has a tendency to get overly analytical. Tessa is feeling secure after getting her rose, but now she realizes she's involved and she's jealous seeing Tina put her hand on Andy's knee.
Alone with Kate, Andy says he wants this experience to be more about meeting the right person than having a great time partying at the house. Realizing he's just implied she's nothing but a party girl, Kate is quick to assure him she's never been in a sorority and that, back at her home, career and family are what matter most to her. She feels pressured to show her serious side and asks the camera, "What did he want me to do? Rescue an orphan from a fire?"
Next, Andy examines Bevin's ankle and says he's glad she's still in the game. She confesses everyone is jealous of the watch, just as Nicole pulls back the curtains to spy on them. Nicole isn't happy that Bevin is getting so much time with Andy when she already has a rose. Stephanie from South Carolina complains that when she had roses, she never got any one-on-one time with Andy. But there's no more one-on-ones for any of them tonight: host Chris arrives and says it's time for Andy to decide who's staying and who's going home.
Andy gives roses to:
Amber
Danielle
Stephanie from Kansas
Tina
Kate
Nicole
Stephanie from South Carolina
Which means that Amanda and Erin are the ones going home. Erin is sorry that she's being sent away, saying she put herself out there as much as she could, it just wasn't enough. A tearful Amanda says she's shocked to be leaving so early and thinks she and Andy could have been great together.
The ladies change into their workout gear as fast as they can and snap to when the drill instructor orders them to make their beds.
