Episode 10 - Are you sure you like my reviews...are you sure?
The summary this week only serves to remind me of how silly it is to lie when it's not necessary. It's also pretty stupid to be totally paranoid, but you do like my reviews, right? Heh. I really think that continually asking someone if they are still with the plan, if you are safe, etc., simply puts the idea in their heads, "hmmm, maybe we SHOULD vote you out."
We are down to the final 8. Everyone from here on out goes to sit on the jury with Bobby Jon, who is apparently shopping at the Miami Vice retro store for his outfits. More on that later, at tribal council.
The survivors return from voting Bobby Jon out of the tribe and Gary explains that he found the idol in a tree, not on the ground, exposing Judd's stupid lie. Oh, and remember how Jamie told everyone that Gary had told him he was going to vote for him, but then Gary actually voted for Cindy? Well, Jamie explains that by telling the others that Gary did it just to confuse them. Cindy says "not necessarily, I don't know." Jamie is amazed that someone doubts him..."what do you mean, no necessarily." It would seem that they have settled into a routine where they go to tribal council, come back to camp and immediately Jamie starts a fight about something. Then he starts in on Gary about how he told him he was going to vote for him. Jamie thinks Gary has called him a liar. Gary says, "I don't call you a liar, but I think you don't hear things very well." Interestingly, Judd more or less takes Gary's side.
Judd theorizes that the game is taking a psychological toll on Jamie and that he might be losing it...well, DUH. You guys like my reviews, right?
Reward challenge is a race through a mud pit, going over an obstacle, under an obstacle, over another obstacle, retrieving a pot of corn that they must return with along the same route, and dump into a big pot at the end. They work in pairs, tied together. The pairs end up being:
Jamie & Rafe
Cindy & Lydia
competing against
Gary & Judd
Stephanie & Danni
The reward is a trip to a private home by helicopter, a big meal, showers, clean clothes, a night in a bed and coffee in the morning.
Lydia is just too short for this challenge. She gets mired in the mud and literally ends up just crawling trying to make it to the finish mat. The pairs are switching off, and Jamie and Rafe almost always beat Gary and Judd, but the Lydia Cindy team just can't compete with Stephanie and Danni. They are all incredibly filthy and exhausted when Danni and Stephanie make the last trip to retrieve that last pot of corn and make it back to fill the finish pot to win the challenge.
Jamie starts yelling at Lydia and Cindy to keep going. He says, "we're going to finish!" Cindy and Lydia look at him like he's crazy (do ya think) and say "They already won Jamie, there's nothing we can do about it." The helicopter arrives and whisks the winners off to their reward while Jamie looks defeated and depressed.
The helicopter takes the four winners to a palatial private home in Guatemala. There is a beautful swimming pool and nearby a feast of prawns, crab, stuffed jalapenos, and and all manner of fine food. Since they are still covered in mud from the challenge, they take a shower at an outdoor shower by the pool and Judd provides us with a big blurry spot as he strips naked to shower, much to the amusement of Stephanie and Danni who are in the pool giggling about it all. You still want to read my reviews, right?
It's interesting that the group we have here is Judd and Stephanie, who are closely allied, (Remember, Judd told only ONE person about the truth of the immunity doll location) and Gary and Danni, the last remaining members of their pre merge tribe that is being picked off one at a time by the alliance of six. It is obvious that these four people really get along well and enjoy one another. This is a perfect opportunity for Gary to ask the others "Are you totally happy with what you've got right now." Gary apparently had a conversation with Stephanie early on where they talked about how they didn't want a game where they ended up with weaker players being kept and stronger players going home because a weaker player would be easier to defeat at the end. They wanted strong, "deserving" people at the end. Gary is bringing that up and reminding Stephanie that the alliance of six plans might not end up in the strong game they said they wanted at first. Gary talks about good attitude and working hard around camp. He says that if Lydia or Cindy go to the final two, they will win. Stephanie asks who they would prefer to vote out and Gary and Danni say they would like Jamie to be gone next. Judd is not swayed. He has his plan and sticking with it and while he liked bonding with them, his game plan will not change.
Meanwhile, back at camp, Lydia is really sorry that she let the others down. She knows she lost this one for them. Rafe admits he is sorry he missed the helicopter ride, but in general they let Lydia know that it's just one of those things. Jamie uses this time to let his paranoia run wild. He is constantly asking if people are still with the plan, if he's still safe. He promises Rafe final three with Jamie and Judd if he just sticks with the plan. He uses the game mancala to pump Rafe for info.
The next morning, the reward winners smell coffee and find a bunch of different Folgers brand coffees, different flavors. Then their host arrives and brings them a package....it is videos from home. They are, of course, thrilled. Stephanie says if they got no food or showers or anything, she would have been completely happy with those videos. We meet Mrs. Judd who says it's boring at home without Judd there. Danni gets a message from mom and her dogs. Someone does voice overs. Danni expresses a strange sentiment that she knew her family would be fine, but she really wanted to see her dogs who appeared well fed. Stephanie's family reduces her to tears. Gary sheds a few tears. His daughter says "I hope you didn't get hit on the head by a coconut, but if you did, Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm your daughter." Priceless.
The reward group returns to camp bearing a big basket of coffee. Apparently Cindy is a coffee fan big time and she is thrilled. There are the little coffee singles like tea bags. As soon as Judd approaches Jamie (who he was worried about anyway because of the paranoia) Jamie quickly asks if there was any game talk. Judd says that there was absolutely no game talk at all.
Gary knows he has put the idea out there and they will either take it or they won't. He is determined to try hard to win immunity. You guys still like my reviews, right? Just wondered.
The immunity challenge involves being attached to one rope that is tangled through a series of obstacles. They must follow the rope around, under, through, etc. until they reach a finish line. The first four to finish the first course will move on to a second stage. Judd is not good at these challenges and bogs down about four feet into the thing. Gary was in the lead for a large portion of the race but then gets in a tangle and is slowed way down. He doesn't panic, but remains stuck for some time. It ends up Cindy vs. Gary and Cindy manages to beat Gary out and the four going to the second stage are Cindy, Steph, Jamie and Rafe. This second stage is vertical, going up three sections as well as horizontal in sections. I think one of the reasons Cindy beat Gary out in stage one is that this challenge is made for people who are small and thin. Gary's height may have caused him to lose out to Cindy. Stage two ends up being Cindy and Rafe neck and neck, probably because of their smaller more flexible frames, until Cindy gets stuck momentarily and Rafe wins the coveted necklace.
Jamie thinks that he is probably the most serious threat in the game but he's letting everyone think it is Gary. He asks Judd again about the votes, and Judd says he doesn't think Jamie will get more than one vote, maybe from Gary. Jamie continues to ask people "are you sticking with the six?" He drags Rafe into playing mancala constantly to ask what's going on. Rafe finally goes to Lydia and says, "Jamie is driving me crazy and I think we should consider voting him off." Lydia is fairly noncommittal, she has been close to Jamie from day one and it's hard to consider voting him off. Stephanie joins the conversation and they discuss it with her. She asks them what do they want to do. They all stare at one another meaningfully.
Bobby Jon is the first jury member. He is all cleaned up and dressed in tan pants and a bright red shirt.
They talk about bonding on the reward challenge. Stephanie and Judd both talk about how much they like Gary and Danni. Jeff asks if this will be a hard vote and Judd says it will be the hardest ever. Jamie says that everyone left on the tribe has good hearts and he will miss anyone who leaves from here on. Gary says he thinks the most important thing right now is to have a positive attitude, because they really are in a survival situation, so he tries to keep it upbeat as possible.
They vote. Jeff retrieves the votes and brings them back to be read. Then it gets interesting.
I LOVE watching the faces of people at tribal when things get shaken up a bit and this tribal was just great for stunned looks and smirks. First vote, Gary. Two votes, Gary. Jamie...1 vote. Jamie another vote. Judd is swallowing hard and his eyes are getting wider. Jamie again....he knows....he's shaking his head. Judd looks like he just sat on a bumble bee. The rest of the votes are all Jamie. Jamie is voted out.
As his torch is snuffed, Jamie turns to the tribe and makes a huge shrugging gesture and announces "Blindsided! NICE! Now that's how you vote somebody out."
Jeff says that Jamie just gave them the best advice ever....that the best way to vote someone out is to blindside them so they don't see it coming. The only problem with that as far as I can tell is that Jamie was constantly campaigning even though there was no reason to believe he was going. To keep someone in the dark with the idea that they won't have time to scramble for votes is useless with Jamie...he was always scrambling.
On the Early show, Jamie admits that he and Bobby Jon have since become friends. He says he was completely stunned to be voted out. I find that hard to understand since he was so obviously paranoid, shouldn't he have constantly thought it would be him and wouldn't him staying have always been the surprise. At any rate, he says he's just glad he got to play. He also says that Gary very definitely called Judd to task about his lying about the immunity doll clue. He doesn't like Stephanie much. He thought of Lydia like his second mom and has forgiven her voting him off without any warning.
Nothing really earthshattering on Survivor Live. Jamie says that his wrestling days are what made him want to finish every challenge even after they lost. He says he taught Lydia how to do "the pancake" her little dance thingie. The comment is made that Lydia and Cindy are playing a very VERY low profile game. (Lydia is the little short gal, older, brown hair. Cindy is the younger girl, blondish hair usually in pigtails and very thin.)
Jamie says he wasn't really all that paranoid, that they just caught him talking to Rafe. Then they show some clips where he's talking to Cindy saying he's scared. Then we see him talking to Rafe and Rafe telling him to stop it because he's making them all crazy. He asks Rafe "so, are you going to vote for me tonight?" Rafe replies, "no, but if you ask me again, I might." I actually think there was a lot of truth in that.
Jamie says Rafe and Stephanie is really running the game at this point. He says he and Judd were contemplating getting rid of Stephanie NEXT week except he got voted out this week. He said originally he would have taken Stephanie to the end (final two) because nobody would vote for her since she was a returnee. Then he got close to Judd and thought it would only be fair to take Judd with him. Of course, he's not going to final two so it's a moot issue, but it got me thinking about Stephanie and could she win this thing? Will they say, she had her chance and lost so someone else wins, or will they think man, this woman has been out in the wild TWICE and still keeps on playing.
So what's up for next week? The preview is pretty darn cryptic. Obviously Judd is stunned at the way the vote went. Stepanie is saying something about proving loyalty. It's mass chaos, but then, it's always like that....and speaking of liking, you guys do still like my reviews, don't you. You wouldn't vote me out or anything, we're sticking with the plan, right?
Till next week, Survive well....
