The Amazing Race Family Edition
Episode 2
Ah yes, another Tuesday night. There’s only one more commercial break to go until show time. Here it comes…. yep…a fast food push coupled with a weight loss program advertisement then the Viagra commercial. I’ll tell ya, nothing says family programming like a burger binge mixed in with major regret pondering your thinner days combined with the expectations of your golden years and the almost normal sex romp you could be having. Ahhhhh…………television! On to the show………
Ok…..I apparently can’t read a TV guide. After a quick call to my sister to find out why the show isn’t on, I realize that I have an hour to kill. My bad….the show starts at 10pm not 9pm. lol Ellen it is……….HOLLAH!!!!
The show finally begins…….
The teams’ first task is to drive to York, PA and find Shoehouse Road and look for the giant shoe shaped house. "I hope there isn’t more than one!" Once there you must search the house to find your next flag. Once you have climbed the steps to the roof and retrieved your clue, you are on to the Nation’s Capital. That’s right…. Washington DC.
83 south…. remember that
For this next task the teams needed to drive to Washington, DC and find the reflecting pool in front of the Capital Building. Sounds simple enough right? Wrong. I mean really, who puts two reflecting pools in the same city? And did you like how when a team saw a flag on the other side of the pool they said, "There it is" and started running. "Let’s go dude" one team yelled and tore off around the pool. I could have ran to my car, drove around the block, got a cheeseburger and still made it to the other side before the team that ran, but oh well. I liked how the guy that has lived there for three years even went to the wrong one at first. After searching for that flag for two hours like the Gaghan family did, I probably would have asked someone. But that is easy for me to say as I am playing the game from my couch.
83 south. …Right?
Once they found the clue box they were instructed to find a black limo on 3rd street and obtain a briefcase from an "unseen contact" in that limo. They then needed to take the briefcase to the Tidal Basen in the shadows of the Jefferson memorial for this episode’s Roadblock. So, they want people lurking around the capitol snatching briefcases from strange limos…ohhhh kay
Has anyone seen 83 south?
Roadblock – The groups got to test their spying skills by playing "Covert Operations." They needed to take the briefcase given to them by the person in the limo and go around giving 50 spy agents, all with briefcases, the password "The sky is Blue" If they picked one of the 10 planted spies and gave them the proper password, you would hear "The sea is green" and you were handed another briefcase identical to yours. This wasn’t a strenuous task but if you weren’t lucky, it could take a while and the area was pretty big. The Branson dad was hurt’n by the end of it I think. I do have to ask though. What was with the comment "I love you, my brother" all about anyways? Once they had gotten their new briefcase and ran back to the group, they were off to the next leg.
By the way…you missed 83 south
Detour. For this one I guess you had to pick. You could either get shot at or blown up. Hmmmmmm, lemme think. No, seriously. The teams were to drive to Middleburg, VA and find the Welbourne Manor. From here they had two options. Participate in a Civil War demonstration and rescue 5 wounded soldiers off of the balltefield, or help with the supplies situation and fill 20 lanterns with oil, and take thewm to the supply master and then light them all. Neither task seemed to be that difficult, not like building a water mill. *Roll’s eyes*
I think the faster of the two was the soldier pick up, but for some of those teams, carrying 5 grown men across a field may not be the best option to take. Again, kudos goes to Carissa. She’s little and may only be able to carry a soldier’s hat, but you have got to admit, she is a strong little girl. Imagine being in one of the adult teams that gave up on that task only to see a little girl complete it. And the way some of these teams argue, I am not sure putting them in a situation involving a flammable fluid is a good idea.
There is no 83 south…ok (Man that Roger’s family dad is a piece of work, huh?)
So…you’ve completed your task and you have been given your regimental flag, it’s time to run…and I do mean RUN to the Pitt stop marker. All I could think of watching the Paola team’s Mom running through the field and down the hill was, "Eric , ma leg" Most of you won’t get that joke, but my sister will. Hey baby! Hollah!
The first team to arrive is the Weaver family. I think one of the daughters looks like DJ from Full House… They are given a trip as the prize for being team number one. I am glad they won something. Following suit in order of appearance were the Linz family, the Gotluski clan, followed by the Schoreder bunch and then the all male team of the Allelio family. Next came the Branson team and then the Gaghans. It was a race to the finish with the Paolo family making team number 8. My husband said, "If I spoke to my mother the way the Paolo kids do, I’da been whooped"
The team eliminated from the amazing race this week was the Rogers family. I liked the kids and the mom but the dad…. OMG… the dad! Maybe the show made it seem worse than it actually was but it seemed as though he picked on his son something awful.
So, that’s it. A quick glance at next week’s episode and another week is over. Only 7 more until it’s on again. Till next time, happy racing, and for the love of god…don’t forget to get gas!
