Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 11:39pm, newlyweds Rob & Amber opened their clue instructing them to drive 4 miles to the town of San Pedro de Atacama and find the church that bears its name.
At the San Pedro de Atacama church, Rob & Amber ripped open their next clue that informed them they had to fly over 800 miles to the town of Puerto Montt and then drive another 30 miles to a fishery in the town of Metri.
Arriving in San Pedro de Atacama third, life partners Joe & Bill pulled over to ask a local for the location of the church. Lurking behind them, dating couple Eric & Danielle slowed down long enough to hear the directions from the local and then proceeded to pass the life partners to reach the cluebox in third place. Furious over having their directions poached, Joe & Bill approached the dating couple who were walking back to their car with the clue. After chastising the couple for their behavior, Bill stood in front of their car as he read the clue preventing them from driving off. Once Bill stepped aside having proved his point, a stunned Eric & Danielle drove off, saying, "What is wrong with them? Such whiners."
As Teams began assembling at the closed airport in Calama, newlyweds Rob & Amber chose a different and more fruitful avenue to purchase tickets by finding a small travel agency that was open late. By going online, they secured a flight that would land in Puerto Montt at 12:55pm.
TAKING NAMES
Not willing to sit idly by at the airport, married couple Uchenna & Joyce, who would have been fourth in line, opted to find a hotel to book tickets online. Before they left the airport, they generously offered to purchase tickets for Joe & Bill, Eric & Danielle, and Oswald & Danny who all took the couple up on their offer by writing down their credit card information.
At a nearby hotel, Uchenna & Joyce discovered the same flight arriving in Puerto Montt that newlyweds Rob & Amber booked. After purchasing their own tickets, they began the process to buy tickets for the other three Teams but instantly discovered a major problem. Only life partners Joe & Bill had the foresight to write down the security code on the back of the credit card that was needed to purchase tickets online. That meant Uchenna & Joyce couldn't buy tickets for Eric & Danielle and Oswald & Danny.
When the ticket counter at the airport opened, Eric & Danielle and Oswald & Danny, unaware of what time Uchenna & Joyce's flight landed, purchased tickets with the rest of the Teams on a flight that arrived in Puerto Montt at 1:55pm, an hour later. However, Eric's sharp ears and eyes noticed the married couple's boarding pass, returned to the ticket counter, and changed his flight to 12:55pm. When Eric switched flights, more ears perked up as Teri & Ian and Charla & Mirna also tried to get on the 12:55pm flight. The agent told them the plane was now sold out, but they could attempt to get on a standby list when they landed in their connecting city of Santiago.
TERI STANDS HER GROUND
Landing in Santiago, married parents Teri & Ian easily beat cousins Charla & Mirna in a footrace to the ticket counter in hopes of securing tickets on the 12:55pm flight. As Teri & Ian began talking to the agent, the whirlwind of Charla & Mirna approached, prompting Teri to remark, "Here comes a showdown." When Mirna attempted to use the services of the sole agent at the counter, Teri fought back, saying, "This is my counter! Do not talk to my person while he is helping me." Mirna held her ground, replying, "Teri, you don't own the world." When Ian suggested Mirna was being rude, she responded, "I took lessons from the king of rude, you." In the end, the shouting amounted to nothing as neither could get tickets on the 12:55pm flight that would carry only Rob & Amber, Uchenna & Joyce, Joe & Bill and Eric & Danielle.
SOMETHING'S FISHY
Landing in Puerto Montt, the four Teams trailed each other out of the airport, but a wrong turn put newlyweds Rob & Amber in fourth place, while Uchenna & Joyce, Eric & Danielle, and Joe & Bill all arrived at the fishery to together to find a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one Team member had to choose an 1800-gallon fish-breeding tank, jump in, and catch and transfer all 80 fish from the breeding tank to a holding tank at the other end of the farm. Once finished, their clue would be revealed at the bottom of the tank.
Donning black rubber hip waders, Danielle, Uchenna, and Joe all stepped into their respective breeding tanks and quickly realized that catching the elusive fish might be harder than they anticipated. The task proved even more daunting to Danielle who had a very acute fear of fish. As she began freaking out over touching them, Eric shouted, "You better pick that d**n fish up, I swear to you! Quit being a baby!" While Uchenna and Joe began transporting the fish to the holding tank, Danielle, against every instinct she had, started picking up the fish and putting them in the carrying tray.
After Amber waded into a breeding tank of her own, the Teams on the second flight that landed fifteen minutes early began arriving at the fishery. Teri struggled to keep the flopping fish under control and landlocked Kentuckian David didn't fare much better with the creatures from the water. While Eric shouted at Danielle to use her boobs to hold the fish prompting a response from Rob, Uchenna delivered his remaining fish to the holding tank and read the clue revealed in the breeding tank. "Find the sign for La Maquina along the river. Just before you enter Petrohue, search for you next clue." Uchenna wrote the clue down correctly, but Joe, finishing close behind, didn't notice the vital information of Petrohue and simply scribbled down La Maquina.
ROLLING ON THE RIVER
Working together, dating couple Eric & Danielle and newlyweds Rob & Amber arrived at La Maquina in first place to find a Detour having to choose between Vertical Limit and River Wild. In Vertical Limit, Teams had to walk 200 yards to a cliff where both Team members needed to complete a 40-foot rock climb. Each Team member would grab one half of their clue at the top of the climb. In River Wild, Teams had to backtrack two miles to the banks of Rio Petrohue where they would complete a two and a half mile white water rafting course through category three and four rapids.
With both Teams opting to cruise along the rapids, Rob & Amber took the lead as Eric & Danielle made a wrong turn in finding the riverbank. As the newlyweds felt the rush of adrenaline on the rapids, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice, having missed the clue at La Maquina, arrived at the riverbank and began rafting in hopes of spotting their next clue in the water. Just behind the beauty queens, Eric & Danielle and Uchenna & Joyce suited up for their wild ride as Rob & Amber completed the course. Opening the clue, Rob & Amber discovered they needed to drive three and a half miles to the next Pit Stop at Playa Petrohue, a beach made of black, volcanic sand.
As the befuddled Dustin & Kandice opened their clue to the Pit Stop wondering why they didn't do a Detour, newlyweds Rob & Amber stepped onto the mat in first place once again. Phil informed the pair that for their hard effort they had each won a full home gym complete with an elliptical trainer and exercise bike.
After Uchenna & Joyce and Eric & Danielle stepped on the mat in second and third place respectively, Dustin & Kandice, who had problems starting their car, arrived in fourth place where Phil informed the stunned pair that they had missed a clue along the way. In the end after retrieving the Detour clue, their mistake cost them nothing more than additional stress as they returned to the mat still in fourth place with best friends Oswald & Danny claming fifth place and married parents Teri & Ian taking sixth.
END OF THE ROAD
Having spent a good part of the afternoon lost, the race for last place heated up between life partners Joe & Bill, cousins Charla & Mirna, and coalminer and wife David & Mary. After meeting up with the cousins, Joe finally discovered he wrote the clue down incorrectly when Mirna pointed it out. Relieved at receiving the correction, Joe & Bill offered to work together to find La Maquina by splitting the fee for a taxi to lead them. David & Mary, on the other hand, after driving past Petrohue having missed the sign, asked locals who pointed them in the right direction.
Arriving at the riverbank together, Charla & Mirna and Joe & Bill raced through the rapids neck and neck as David & Mary cruised close behind. Back at their cars, Joe & Bill passed by Charla & Mirna who lost their car keys and claimed seventh place. The panicked cousins located their keys and began the drive to the Pit Stop only moments ahead of David & Mary. While the coalminer and wife made a race of it, the relieved cousins stepped onto the mat in eighth place.
Pulling into the Pit Stop in last place, coal miner and wife David & Mary received the bad news from Phil that they had been eliminated from the race. Mary commented, "This time I think that we both came to the realization that I'm me and he's him and we gotta accept each other for who we are." David added, "I'm not gonna change her and she's not gonna change me. We just gotta go with the flow."
