The Apprentice - Martha Stewart
Episode 1
The beginning of the show was a little like "I'm Martha Stewart, look how wonderful I am!!". she was going on and on about the steps she took to become a millionaire. well pin a rose on her nose. I don't really mind her and she's good at what she does and all but what the F$%$ ever .... get on with the d**n show already!!
Enter 16 people ready to start kissing some Martha butt ....
Theme Song .... Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics. Certainly not the money song but kinda catchy and I suppose very fitting.
Martha enters the Conference Room (which I will refer to as CR from now on) and we continue on with the "look at me look at me" from her. *roll eyes*.
We learn that her daughter Alexis is one of the team leaders. Are you kidding me?!?! So I suppose Martha had a big audition within the company for the position and her daughter "just happened" to be the most qualified?!? mmm hhhmmmm sure.
After the CR the 16 enter their home for the next 13 weeks, the Loft. Of course the first thing they do is break open the Champagne but soon find the note from Martha and get to the first job at hand which is splitting into groups and coming up with team names by finding something in common. They quickly separate into creative and corporate.
Creative group - Matchstick
Corporate group - Primarius
**Random Thought** - Jim ..... hello control much.
Martha calls the first task meeting @ Random House. When they arrive she announces the first task, to see who can shove their head the farthest up her butt. Just kidding it was to adapt a well known fairy tale and modernize it. They have to rewrite, illustrate and produce their book and read it to a group of first graders.
------> insert Martha Kid's Magazine Plug.
Primarius (P) - decides on Jack and the Bean Stock and get to planning a strategy.
Matchsticks (M) - Pick Hansel and Gretel. Dawn gets picked as the story writer because that's what she does. She has a major power trip moment asking all others basically not to even look in her general direction. Hello lady, go to the next room for a little while if you need absolute quiet. She makes such a stink that Jeff decides to take over the project..
(P) - They go out on the street and recruit children to come up and hear and look @ the draft copy of their book to see if they are going in the right direction. The children seemed to love the book and Howie's reading.
(M) - The team thinks Jeff's story idea is too dark so he freaks out and starts pacing and screaming. Dawn who had been picked as the story teller arrives in the morning and wants to grab an banana before starting to practice the reading of the book and the team thinks this is a terrible thing. Dawn and Jeff have an arguement because she wanted to sit on the floor and read to the children and he thought that was unprofessional and the exects and Random House are who they are trying to impress not the children. What a moron!!! The whole point of the project was who got a better reaction out of THE CHILDREN and they way to impress the exects is also to impress the children. Jeff demotes Dawn and replaces her with another story reader.
Story Time .....
(M) - The children seemed somewhat engaged but didn't laugh and had a very "meh" attitude to the story.
(P) - The children seemed more animated right away. Howie was very adorable reading to the children and they clapped and seemed very excited.
Martha meets with Random House exects and they bring in the teams. They said Matchsticks really did a wonderful job with the illustrator, making the pictures page turning which was wise but the rhyming did not work and got no laughs. About Primarius they said their ideas were cleaver and unique and was written in the first person. It was very inventive and they loved the pictures.
(P) were picked as the clear winners and as a reward they get to go to dinner at a restaurant with Martha.
At the restaurant Martha hovers over the chef. "Martha ... please step away from the kitchen and let the poor chef do his job." I also think she rearranged the place setting on the table.
**Random Though** - That English receptionist really gets on my nerves. Totally seems out of place.
At the CR Martha states her issues with the book, mainly about the children changing their names and escaping from their house. She hates the story.
**Random thought** - Jim kinda looks like Marc Anthony.
Basically it's a big he said she said event and a big blah blah blah fest. Jeff is asked to pick two people to come back to the CR and he picks Dawn and Jim.
**Random thought** - really what is up with Mary Poppins here at the desk?
When the 3 return back to the CR Martha asks Jeff why he picked the other two to come back with him and he says Jim is extremely disruptive. Dawn says the only good thing about the book were the illustrations and Jim was in charge of that area. Jim tells Martha that everything that she hated about the book was all Jeff's doing. Martha says her company is as successful as it is because they connect and neither Jeff or the message that he tried to convey connected.
Jeff "you just don't fit in" <--- her catch phrase. What the hell is this the middle school playground?
Martha then writes Jeff this gaggy, sappy letter. Dear god in heaven ........ words can't even describe the ick.
