The Apprentice - Martha Stewart
Episode 8
Let me start off by saying I do not like Martha Stewart and had no intention of watching this show, but there is nothing else to watch on Wednesday nights as I don’t do Lost. I know I know, Lost is a very good show, but I just could not sit and watch it.
On to this weeks show.
Episode 8 – OVC or Bust!
The show begins with Jim filling everyone in on how he escaped being sent home. How lucky of him that Sarah lost her mind and said he was the strongest on the Tide Task. If Martha had a set of balls like Donald she would have fired them all as the presentation they came up with for Tide to Go was pathetic. Howie and Bethany survived the board room….oops wrong Apprentice….the conference room. While Bethany, Jim and Howie have a little fun, the members of Matchstick look on in disgust. What prudes…..come on have a little fun why don’t ya.
The next morning they meet with Martha, her daughter and the cigar holding geek. Because the teams are uneven, Martha moves Dawna over to Primarius.
This week’s task is to go to QVC, pick out an outdoor product and go live on air and sell it. The winner is the team that brings in the most money.
Off topic – I have to tell you if you have never shopped with QVC…try it. I love QVC!!!! Most of my Christmas presents and decorations for that matter come from QVC. I am a scrapbooker and QVC is a great place to get scrapbooking items. I know some of you will scoff at buying from a home shopping show, but I tell you QVC is really good. Good products for reasonable prices. Enough already!
The Project Managers are Bethany for Primarius and Ryan for Matchstick, although you would have thought Amanda was the PM for Matchstick with the way she was barking orders and talking over everyone.
On the bus ride up to QVC, both teams strategize, with Matchstick strategizing more than Primarius because Primarius likes to cutup and have fun. Dawna did not think they were acting professional. Oh come on….lighten up!
Dawna and Howie were chosen as the on-air personalities for Primarius, with Leslie and Amanda for Matchstick.
Over at Matchstick, although Ryan was the PM and was trying to make decisions, Amanda kept interrupting everyone. And they thought Markus talked to much…oops wrong show again…lol
Matchstick arrived at OVC and the hunt for a product was on. The settled on water hose rewinder and decided to sell it for $99.97. Sorry to say, I would not be buying one at that price, not when I can roll my hose up for free.
Primarius seemed to take a little longer in picking their product. At first it looked as if they would choose an easy to assemble outdoor hammock, but when the two guys, Howie and Jim could not easily assemble it they instead opted for an air inflator. I have to tell you anytime something says “easy to assemble”, go to school first to learn how because it aint gonna be easy. Of course the guys would try to assemble it without reading the directions. I was rolling on the floor when Howie had the guts to try to sit in it and the thing collapsed on him
They planned to sell the inflator for $44.78. Do the math folks, that means they would have to sell more than double what Primarius would sell.
After picking out the products, the teams would head over to the sets to check them out and make any changes they needed to. On the way Bethany started second guessing her choice of Dawna as the spokesperson because as she put it, “Dawna is a bore”. I guess being professional in a professional setting is now called being a bore. Whatever!
Once they got to the sets, Ryan for Matchstick assigned Marcela to dress the set. Leslie would be the host and Amanda the demonstrator. This did not sit well with Amanda, as if anything would. Of course after wasting time arguing, the outcome remained the same, only now Ryan would make sure that Amanda would not get hardly any air time. Smart move Ryan!!
During the rehearsal of their presentations, Dawna did a surprisingly good job, however Howie just did not have it. Hell, he could not even remember the name of the product. So Bethany did what any good Project Manager would do and replaced Howie with Jim…WHAT…are you kidding me. This is the guys who made obscene sales pitches with salad dressing and you want him to make a sales pitch for an inflator that blows up balls…..can you see a disaster or FCC violation coming a mile away. Jim was worried as was Dawna.
Over at the rehearsal for Matchstick, Amanda was too busy running her mouth and barking orders to realize just how much she was irritating everyone. And I mean everyone, the QVC camera crew as well.
Show time – Ryan took the reigns as producer although he had no experience. He did a really great job. Maybe he should think career change. Leslie looked like a pro as well…..smooth with her delivery and polished. She must have studied the product….either that or she has one of these because she knew the product very well. Keeping to his word, Ryan only showed Amanda once, real quick, during her demonstration. As soon as her demo was gone he told her to get off set….hahah
Next up, Primarius, with Jim and Dawna on air and Howie at the control booth. Poor Howie, you could see the writing on the wall as he had problem after problem in the control booth. Just a few seconds before airtime, Dawna looked as if she wanted to crawl under a rock and hide as Jim was goofing off and spanking himself. I have to admit, I wanted to hide for Dawna but I was too busy laughing I disagree off.
As they began, sales were a little slow with Dawna at the helm. But once Jim began talking about taking the kids to the beach and having to quickly blow things up sales jumped up. All in all Jim and Dawna did a good job with only one mishap: Jim walking out of the shot once.
Back at the board room….oops conference room. (As you can tell I am more of a Trump Apprentice fan). Results time. Primarius sold 266 or $11,911.48 of the inflators. d**n…seems pretty good to me. However, Matchstick sold 143 hose rewinders for a total of $14,295.71. Winner……Matchstick!
Their reward….hold on to your seats people this one is a doozy: A tour of Martha’s house in the Hamptons…what, are you kidding me….I don’t know about you but I don’t consider that a reward….what a rip off. I think I would have preferred to just have the helicopter ride, forget the tour of the house.
Back to the conference room….woohoo I got it right this time. I think it was obvious who would go home, but for nutss and giggles there had to be some back biting. Bethany did not know what went wrong at first, so Dawna told Martha that she thought Bethany was not a motivator. Howie thought they lost because they picked the wrong product; Martha disagreed and said it was their sales pitch. Of course it began to look as if Jim would then be the scapegoat, but as Jim put it, “I was chosen at the last minute and did not have time to rehearse”. For some reason Bethany chose to send Dawna back to the loft over her own teammates. Once back in the conference room, after much bickering back in forth, Howie was let go because he just really did not do anything and what he did do on this task was to screw everything up. He could not sale, he could not produce, nothing. So it’s bye bye Howie. Of course Bethany really felt bad and wanted to tell Howie this, but Howie was not buying it. Last but not least we get to see Martha writing her goodbye letter to Howie. How lame.
I have to tell you, I think the only reason this show was done was to try to propel Martha back into the public spotlight and to try to cast a good light on her. I can’t tell you how many times I heard “Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia”. This show is nothing but one big advertising campaign for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. And if I ever hear the name Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia again, I think I will cringe.
Until next week……hugs and kisses
