There are those people who watch Survivor and make note of every little thing that is shown and in what sequence as the show returns from commercial. They believe that there are "signs" in those moments and that it can foreshadow events in that episode and sometimes through the remainder of the show to the winner. This episode opens with a very closeup view of some really LARGE flies on something nasty and what appears to be a buzzard eating something off the beach. The next scene is Terry tending the fire. One could make inferences about something being picked over to the bone, but who do we infer is doing the picking. Time will tell.
Terry is talking about how he's the last one left now. He says people keep saying, "Is something wrong? Do you want to talk about it?" He says "YES, something is wrong but I don't want to talk about it." He thinks it should be obvious. Danielle and Shane are celebrating, hugging one another. They are happy about being the first tribe to stick together to the end. I'm not sure that's true...but they think it is. They are happy. Terry is saying that he thinks if he can hang on until he is in the final three, he'll win because he has it all over them as far as mental and physical strength. Ok, Terry, if you say so.
Terry says it will be interesting to hang out now and watch them all turn on one another. He is proud that he has never had to vote for a member of his own tribe. I keep thinking that if he had just tried to SAVE members of his own tribe, it would have made more sense, but well, at least he never VOTED for them.
He says he wants to be the "fly on the wall". AHA, maybe there is something to this foreshadowing stuff.
Bruce isn't feeling well. He says he hasn't pooped well lately. He says he feels really constipated and sick to his stomach. Everyone is concerned. He is trying to drink a lot of water. He says he having a lot of pain. Bruce now tells the camera he hasn't gone to the bathroom since before the Panamanian feast.
Treemail consists of large boxes, one for each tribe member, with their names on them and a scroll that reads:
A doll represents each of you
It needs a bit of your hair, your clothes, your heart
Give it some of your personality
And you're off to a real good start
How well you observe your surroundings
Can help rejuvenate you for a while
But if you live with blinders on
You may find yourself in exile.
They open the boxes and find large dolls, standing about 3 feet tall, I think. They have already been made to look something like the members of the tribe, but they go to work to personalize them even more. We see Cirie packing straw into her doll's halter top to give it more cleavage like her own. They take their dolls with them to the reward challenge.
For the reward challenge, they are asked to complete surveys anonymously. Their dolls are to be used in the challenge. Once the surveys are completed and the answers are all tallied, they are told that Jeff will ask questions about the survey and they must answer what they think the MAJORITY said on the survey in answer to that question. NOT their opinion, but what they think the majority of the tribe said in response to questions. Each tribe member has a group of flip cards with the names of all the tribe members on them and they will hold up the card they think is the majority opinion. If they are right, they are allowed to cut a rope that is labeled with the name of one of the other tribe members. Each tribe member has three ropes. The ropes are attached to torches that will fall over when it's rope is cut. As it falls over, it lights the next torch. When all three ropes have been cut, the last torch falls over to ignite the voodoo doll of the tribe member whose last rope was cut. That tribe member is eliminated from the challenge. Jeff describes the survey as a group of questions designed to see how well they have gotten to know their tribemates.
The last person standing wins the reward. The reward consists of being taken by helicopter to a spa where they will be able to shower and receive a massage. There will be as much food as they can eat. Their clothes will be washed and they will spend the night. The winner also decides who should be sent to exile island.
1) Who does the least for the tribe?
Courtney and Danielle say Bruce. Jeff tells them they are wrong. Bruce says Courtney and HE is not right. The rest say Danielle and they are correct. Cirie cuts Terry's first rope. Aras cuts Terry's second rope. Terry cuts Aras' first rope. Shane cuts Terry's last rope and he is out of the challenge.
2) Who never shuts up?
Cirie and Shane get it right saying it is Courtney. The rest all say Terry. Courtney looks shocked. Shane chops Bruce's first rope and Cirie follows to chop Bruce's second rope.
3) Who mistakenly believes they are running this game?
Courtney and Aras get this one right saying Shane. Shane says Danielle and the others say Aras. Shane says he does NOT perceive himself as running the game. Aras chops Bruce's last rope and he is eliminated. Courtney gives Shane his first chop. Jeff comments that this was a rough round for Shane and Cirie cannot contain her laughter.
4) Who would you trust with your life?
Aras is right with a vote for Cirie. Cirie says Bruce. Aras cuts one of Courtney's ropes.
5) Who would you NOT trust to watch your back?
Courtney and Aras are right saying Terry. Courtney chops Danielle's first rope. Aras chops Cirie's first rope.
6) Who is the biggest poser?
Danielle asks "what is a poser?" but nobody responds. Aras is the only one getting it right with a vote for Courtney. Aras cuts Danielle's second rope. Courtney is getting very redfaced. Cirie is still grinning ear to ear. Shane is clouding up.
7) Who is the moodiest?
The answer is Shane. Courtney and Aras got it right. Courtney chops Shane's second rope. Shane says "You're the only person to hit me twice. Your LIFE is changed." Jeff interjects with, "except for the fact that you're not really running the game." Shane sputters and says, "No, I mean running around camp." Courtney laughs and says, "d**n right, dude, we're playing a game!" Shane spits and says nothing but he looks like he could kill someone. Bruce says, "but it's for a helicopter and a spa." Courtney says "come on, Bruce," and rolls her eyes. Terry is nearly doubled over laughing at the whole spectacle and Cirie has this look on her face that lets us know she is amazed that these "adults" are acting this way. Shane continues to grumble "Why did you hit me twice." Courtney tries to answer, "I didn't think it was...." Aras says, "Come on, lets just play this game. Let's rise above it." Terry, grinning ear to ear from the sidelines says, "Yeah, get in the spirit, you guys." He's obviously taunting. Aras chops Danielle's last rope removing her from the challenge. He adds "I love you Danielle, but now I know you can't get me back."
8) Who most easily succumbs to intimidation?
Courtney is the right answer and Shane got it right. He chops, of course, Courtney's second rope. Shane and Courtney each have one rope. Cirie and Aras have two.
9) Who is the most annoying person out here?
You can hear Cirie break into giggles as this question is read. I almost think she giggles when she is nervous. But then, she has watched these people carry on from day one. She knows what they are like. She managed to NOT be in their arguments while watching them argue. So maybe she is just laughing because she knows how they are going to react to this game later on. Everyone says Courtney except for Courtney who says Terry. Jeff says, "obviously you are surprised." Courtney replies, "by being the right answer for everything? Yeah." Cirie is trying not to laugh out loud but realizing that everyone said Courtney in answer to this question cracks her up badly. Her facial expressions are absolutely priceless. Courtney adds, "It makes you feel great." Terry is trying to hide his amusement and failling. Aras chops Courtney's final rope. As she sits down on the sidelines, Jeff says, "Courtney is out of the game and probably happy to be out of the game." Courtney rolls her eyes and says "Well, I'm sure I'll be the right answer to everything else today." Shane chops Aras' second rope. As he walks back to his spot in the line of contestants, he says to Cirie, "Babydoll, please don't put me out, Me nor you have won...." Cirie throws her hand over her face and groans. Shane stands in his spot, with his tongue in his cheek looking petulant. At this point, Aras and Shane each have one rope left and Cirie must cut one of them, sending Aras or Shane out of the game. She looks back at them as she walks to the chopping blocks and says, "Oh...Shane...I'm sorry." Shane says "WHY?" Cirie explains that she had promised Aras a long time ago that she wouldn't cut him out of a challenge. Shane sulks and says "You did? Well you told me a lot too." Cirie chops Shane's final rope. Shane throws his flip cards into the dirt and stomps over to sit with the other losers. He begins to whine, "Cirie just slips under the radar, that's her plan...." Danielle smacks him on the shoulder and says "Don't be so hard on her." He looks up at Cirie and says "I'm having an emotional reaction. I want to go on the reward. I want to get to fly and eat a sandwich. It's all good." Cirie is just smiling pleasantly as you would at a spoiled child having a silly little tantrum. Oh wait, he is a silly little child having a tantrum. Cirie has two ropes left. Aras has one. This means that if Cirie gets the next question right, she wins, even if Aras gets it right as well.
10) Who would never survive on their own?
Aras says Terry and Cirie says herself. Cirie is correct and Cirie wins the challenge. Cirie chops Aras' last rope. Terry calls to Aras from the sidelines. Did you do that on purpose, Aras? Aras responds that he doesn't think Terry would last a day on his own out there.
Cirie is happy. She sends Terry to Exile Island. Cirie gets to pick two people to go with her. Shane begins begging literally getting on his knees. Cirie selects Aras and Danielle to go with her on the reward. Shane begins arguing, "Cirie we talked about this." She says, "I'm sorry Shane, but I promised Danielle. I'm sorry." Shane retorts nastily, "You are sorry. I'm devastated." Cirie says she made promises on day one and Aras promised her as well. Shane explains he is not worried about Aras, he's worried about Danielle and he thinks Cirie made the wrong call. Cirie says "OK." Danielle says, "Thanks." Shane sneers, "Have fun." WHAT A BABY. I have NEVER seen anyone act so pathetic ever on Survivor. I hate that his CHILD will see this horrible behavior. Absolutely, the worst ever. Worse to me than Susan Hawkes snake speech.
Cirie, Danielle and Aras head out to the helicopter on the beach and fly off in style. Terry has already left for Exile Island. Bruce, Courtney and Shane head back to camp. None of them looks even remotely content.
The helicopter flies over the lush greenery of the islands, the blue ocean accented by white beaches and black rocks jutting out into the water. Seagulls are plentiful. Rays jump up out of the water and soar for a moment like a large bird before diving back under the waves. Aras, Danielle and Cirie are thrilled. Cirie says she was never in a helicopter before and she felt like she was flying by herself over all these things she would never had had a chance to see in her lifetime. She adds that she chose Aras and Danielle because they were the people she believed she would have the most fun with, but she realizes it could be a fatal move for her. She figures she is Public Enemy Number 1 now. But they sit down to enjoy the food. Aras mentions that he had a LOT of fun at that challenge. They talk about how indignant Courtney was. Cirie admits she just couldn't stop laughing because it was so funny. She says that if her tribe members thought she was the most annoying, she would have felt the same way.
Back at camp, Shane is griping that he always thought that he, Aras and Cirie were tight but now he has to ask himself where Cirie is with Danielle. Bruce is walking around camp moaning. Courtney joins Shane at the campfire and says "Boy, that was fun." What then follows is one of the weirdest, most clueless conversations ever on Survivor. Shane is telling Courtney that she is personalizing too much of the stuff from the challenge. She is telling Shane that she doesn't care about not getting to go on the reward, but that she is freaked out about how many times her name was the answer. Shane tells Courtney that some of the questions were stupid and while "who is the most annoying" might not be fun.....Courtney interjects, "I was so happy to be here yesterday and now I am like, I don't want to be here." I have come to the conclusion that these two are soulmates and should marry on the island.
Shane says that Courtney takes a lot of stuff personally and she destroyed herself today putting her at an all time low. He says it will be interesting to see how she handles herself for the next few days. Bruce waddles by occasionallly not looking any better as time goes by. Finally he tells Shane he will help with the fire later that afternoon or evening, but he is going to go lay down for a while and try to pass out. Shane asks compassionately, "Couldn't pass a deuce?" Bruce says, "What?" Shane interprets, "Poop?" Bruce says no and that he can't eat anything either. Shane tells the camera that Bruce has been in pain for the last couple of days and that it's starting to double and triple up on him.
Bruce says he has had many many horrible injuries and that this is no less painful. Shane says that this has been bothering Bruce for the last 10 or 12 days and that while Bruce is sometimes overly dramatic, he doesn't think he's being dramatic now and that he is in a LOT of pain. Bruce says his whole back and stomach hurt very bad and that the pain is increasing. Bruce is literally laying on the ground moaning and groaning.
Also moaning and groaning are the three reward winners who are getting mud massages. Cirie said she felt like Robin Leach. Danielle says the guy giving her the massage was a little rough. Cirie is laughing at Danielle saying "ow". They are eating again. Aras lays his fork down saying he is done. He just can't eat anymore. He picks up the fork and says maybe one more bite. Cirie laughs. She is one happy survivor right now, but come to think of it, she's always got a smile on her face for the most part. I'm really starting to root for her and I didn't think I was going to like her at all. She won me over. She says that even if she gets voted out over this, at least she got to do this, and it was great.
Aras and Danielle are saying that Courtney has a crush on Shane. Aras says Courtney wants to be wanted and that's her psychological patter and she loves when Shane engages her in arguments. Cirie says that she feels bad for poor Bruce back there with Shane and Courtney. Cirie adds that nobody is going to like her after this. Aras says HE likes her. Danielle says she LOVES her as she shovels another sthingyful into her mouth.
Bruce's condition is worse. At this point he is literally crying out with pain and has asked for medical to come check him out. Courtney wants to help. She comes over where he is laying in the shelter. I can't possibly write what follows as funny as it was, so I'll just write it and let you imagine. It's kind of sad this is so funny when Bruce is suffering, but well, you'll see:
C: If I sing you a song, will it help?
B: No.
C: No? Show me your face. (begins singing) Oh, take me away.....
B: Don't.
To her credit, Courtney is genuinely concerned and proceeds to rub Bruce's back as he writhes on the floor of the shelter in pain. Occasionally he waves his arm to shove her away but finally gives up and accepts her comforting rubs and pat. He says he doesn't want to quit the game. His distress is pretty intense at this point.
The medical team arrives. The doctor hops out of the boat and comes over to the shelter. He presses on Bruce's tummy and Bruce screams. He asks Bruce if he has a history of any serious illnesses or conditions. Bruce says no. The doctor finally says, "I think this pain is too much for you to stay out here, man." He starts an IV and gives him some medication. Bruce is still groaning. He gives Bruce something to inhale but Bruce is shaking and can't hold the thing in his mouth. He says he's not getting any better. The doctor says he can't rule out that it's his appendix so he needs Shane and Courtney to help him carry the stretcher. Shane asks if he gave him a shot and he says he did. They carefully load Bruce into a stretcher. Shane then announces he hopes nobody is offended by his being completely nude, but he can't sleep in his pants because they are wet and he has "the rash". So naked Bruce and Courtney help carry Bruce on a stretcher to the boat as sad survivor music plays. Shane says he hopes Bruce can come back and finish on his terms.
Day 26 Exile Island. Terry says that there is definitely a big target on his back and that the reward challenge was a joke for him, but he did enjoy watching their discomfort as the game played out.
Shane asks Courtney if he needed her vote to get them one person further in the game would she break his back with her obsessive compulsive over thinking part. I swear, that is what he asked her. She says she's not comfortable saying she would do whatever he wanted without question. She asks if they are going to keep this between them. He says he will hunt her down and kill her after the game if she doesn't. He will drive up, kill her in her nutsty little apartment and then drive over to his club and forget about it. She is stunned. She says "That was really nice." She says I don't have a nutsty little apartment. He says well I've never been to your apartment, dude. He is screaming, it was just an adjective. Don't take everything so personal. She tells him to quit being so obnoxious. He says he's not obnoxious. He says that Courtney is so sensitive. To the camera he says, "Glenn Close, Sybil, bunny boiler, Fatal Attraction, she's so scary, she's a lunatic man, especially after yesterday and finding out how everyone thinks she's stupid. She a dream ticket to the final two. Anyone could win against her. Anyone. It's crazy. She's a dream." THEY MUST MARRY.
Cirie and the others return from reward. Nobody is there to greet them. Cirie says the tension at the camp was so thick she was afraid to come past the palm fronds. Courtney announces that they have lost a member. They realize Bruce isn't there. Courtney fills them in on his being removed by medical and says they have no idea what's going on at this point.
Aras said that Shane looked like an animal when they got back. Shane tells him that he learned a lot at the challenge yesterday and is going to set his sail accordingly. Aras ponders this a moment trying to figure out what Shane is alluding to. Shane says he is going to do what he has to do and adds, "I hope you guys had a good time.
From across the camp Cirie tells Danielle she can tell that Shane is pissed. She can tell by the look on his face. She says that this was NOT the challenge to win.
Shane continues to tell Aras that she is really disapppointed in Cirie for taking Danielle on the reward because Danielle has done NOTHING from day one. He says "You and I have carried her, all 300 pounds, we've carried her on our backs. It was wrong yesterday. It was wrong."
Cirie says "Oh my god." Danielle says "he is soooo selfish."
Shane says he is going to turn the whole game and everyone is going to have a big problem. He is going to play now and they are in trouble. Aras says he wants to just let Shane cool down without getting into it with him. Finally Cirie goes to talk to Shane and tells him that as far as the GAME it has always been the three of them Aras, Cirie and Shane. She says that the reward had NOTHIING to do with the game. Cirie said it was so hard, knowing how he felt, to choose who she did. She said it was hard to not take him. She calmed him down. He admits he got scared about the game because of her choices. He makes her do the child's life swear and then he says that he and Aras and Cirie are in an alliance and that his whole rant was just a ruse to get them to talk to him and agree to do what he wants. Riiiight. You gotta love Shane. He's so perverse. He pouts like a 3 year old, throws tantrums, whines and carries on, yells at people irrationally, carries stretchers completely naked, shows Cirie his nether regions, and probably wants to marry Courtney.
Courtney and Danielle want to do something nice for Bruce. The decide to tidy up his rock garden. Then they want to give him a message. So they put words in stones in the rock garden. His nice little zen garden now says LUVU BRUCE. Yeah, I know. LUVU BRUCE. They admire their work and say "he would LOVE it...he would just LOVE it."
A boat appears on the horizon. They all look to see who is on board and recognize Terry's red shirt with blue sleeves. Jeff Probst is also in the boat. That brings everyone to the beach. Jeff greets them and has them all gather around and sit near the fire. He explains to them all that Bruce's bladder and colon were blocked and that he will not be returning to the game as a player. They hope his doctor's will allow him to participate as a member of the jury. There is no tribal council and no immunity challenge. Everyone is stunned and shocked. They all express great respect for him hanging in as long as he did with the pain he was in. They say he is a warrior, a master sensei.
Previews indicate that Shane has found a piece of wood he decides is his raspberry and he dials it like a phone. It's been done, Season 1.
Cirie catches a BIG FISH. Atta girl.
Terry is talking about how he's the last one left now. He says people keep saying, "Is something wrong? Do you want to talk about it?" He says "YES, something is wrong but I don't want to talk about it." He thinks it should be obvious. Danielle and Shane are celebrating, hugging one another.
Atta girl.
