ABC has announced the identities of the 25 women who will compete for the affection of U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin on the tenth edition of The Bachelor, titled Officer and a Gentleman, which is scheduled to premiere on Monday, April 2 at 9:45PM ET/PT.
Baldwin -- a 30-year-old undersea medical officer for a special operations dive unit stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI, accomplished triathlete, and winner of recent humanitarian awards for his work in Laos last summer -- has already said he found love among the bachelorettes during filming for the tenth installment of The Bachelor.
"That was one thing I didn't know, the 25 cards I was going to be dealt... I was beaming from ear to ear. Never have I meet such an amazing pool of women before," said Baldwin during a conference call with reporters last week.
The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman will begin with Baldwin meeting his 25 suitors during a thingytail party on the Los Angeles-anchored yacht that will serve as Baldwin's private Bachelor refuge. But during the women's arrivals, the season's first twist will quickly emerge -- unlike earlier editions that allowed bachelors to make their decision during the thingytail party -- Baldwin will have to give one of his suitors his "first impression" rose during his initial introductions.
The party is also held on Baldwin's birthday, and as his suitors catch wind of the news, one reveals that it's her birthday as well. But other women also try to get in the act, as two sneak off to the kitchen to cook something special for Baldwin's birthday bash; two more get into an alcohol-fueled argument; another challenges him to a push-up contest; an acrobatic suitor performs some back flips in an evening dress; and another belts out "The Star Spangled Banner."
"I think that first night is such a whirlwind in itself," said Baldwin. "These women, they really want to be able to demonstrate any of the talents they do have."
When it's all over, Baldwin will eliminate 10 of the 25 women, leaving 15 to compete for his affections. Once Baldwin's 15 finalists are selected, the show will draw upon some of the themes of the well-known 1982 Richard Gere film that it's subtitle is similar to and throw the remaining women into a boot camp complete with a drill sergeant. Other The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman events will include a "triathlon" that will give Baldwin, an accomplished triathlete, a chance to see the women to do some swimming, biking and running and a charity event for an inner-city school in Los Angeles.
