Naval officer Andy Baldwin hopes to finally meet the right woman from among the 25 Bachelorettes. He knows it's going to be a special night: It's also his 30th birthday!
Host Chris Harrison instructs Andy to give his first rose to the bachelorette who impresses him the most on first sight as the women start to arrive by fives in separate limos.
The first is brunette Alexis from Dallas, who gives Andy a hug.
Next is dark-haired Nicole, who tells Andy she's about to pass out, so it's a good thing he's a doctor!
Amanda tells Andy, "I've never waited so long to meet somebody in my whole life." He says he loves her dress and that she looks beautiful.
Andy notes Peyton's Southern accent and asks her where she's from and she replies "Tennessee." He tells her he loves Southern women.
Catherine, a former Miss Illinois, is from Chicago and Andy tells her his brother just got married there.
Andy says "Wow," when he first sees Amber, who tells him that since she's from Sugarland, Texas, "I'll probably be the sweetest one here."
Blakeney gives Andy a big hug and tells him she's from Birmingham and that they're going to have "so much fun."
Brunette Danielle V. strides confidently towards Andy and gives him a kiss on the cheek and tells him he looks even better in person.
Jackie tells Andy she's very nervous before she hugs him. She's also the first one to ask about the rose.
Stephanie W. offers her hand for Andy to shake and tells him she's from the "underrated" city of Overland Park, Kansas.
Andy calls Tina "the lady in red," and tells her she looks smashing. She hands him a fortune cookie she got at dinner the other night, which reads, "Your dreams will become reality." He tells her she's a sweetheart and gives her a hug and a kiss.
Andy tells Erin that she has "the most beautiful blonde hair and the most beautiful eyes."
Susan, who's also from Texas, doesn't make much small talk before Andy says he'll see her inside. She looks disappointed as she walks away.
Stephanie T. says she's "come a long way" from South Carolina to meet him. She coyly asks about the rose. He tells her it's for a woman who hits him with the right smile and the right energy -- just like she did, and he hands her the rose! She happily accepts and he kisses her on the cheek.
Blakeney sees Stephanie coming inside with the rose and says, "Okay girls, get your claws out!"
Danielle I. sees the empty tray and says, "I was one girl late!" but Andy assures her there's plenty more roses to be given out.
Bevin gives Andy a peck on the cheek and asks him where his uniform is and he says, "Maybe I'll put it on for you later."
Tessa gets a peck on the cheek and tells Andy a silly joke.
Candace, a waitress, doesn't say much before it's time for her to go inside.
Jeanette gives Andy a kiss on the cheek and he tells her she's gorgeous and she gives him a quick hug and says how nice it is to meet him.
Boisterous Lindsay gives Andy a big smile and an even bigger hug. She says she's from Kansas and that she's a fan of Duke, where he went to college.
Kate strikes a model's pose outside the limo and then announces, "I'm the girl with the short dress," as she walks over to throw her arms around Andy. His hands linger around her waist as she knowingly says, "We have stuff to talk about," before going inside.
Linda seems intimidated by Andy when she says she's "heard a lot" about him.
Andy tells bubbly Tiffany F. she looks elegant and she jokingly says, "Adam, right?" She then tells him he has a lot of beautiful girls to choose from and he says, "You're one of them!"
Jessica admits she's a little nervous and Andy tells her to relax and that tonight's going to be fun.
Tiffany W. shyly says, "I'm the last one," and Andy replies, "They saved the best for last."
Andy goes inside and tells the assembled women, "I need a drink!" And that he can't wait to get to know each and every one of them better. They raise their champagne glasses and cheer. Andy joins them on the couch and asks, "Does anybody need a doctor?" and they all raise their hands.
To the camera, Lindsay declares that Andy is "hotter than the Kansas sun," adding, "get away, all you other girls," while First Impression Rose recipient Stephanie T. says she intends to get "rose after rose" until she gets a ring.
Andy shows some of the women how to do a military salute. Amber says she misses the children she teaches and family-oriented Andy is impressed, adding that he used to teach Sunday School.
Andy flops back on a couch to admire the stars with Amanda, who lies down next to him. She tells him one of the most amazing things she's done in her life was climb the Great Wall of China and he says he loves a woman who is up for adventure.
Bevin tells Andy she might not be as athletic as him, but shows him the many scars on her legs from mountain biking. "That is so hot!" he declares, while examining her leg. "You're gonna like me, because I like to get beat up," she says and he pulls her in for a hug.
Tina reveals she's a medical student and -- because she's insecure that she's not the prettiest girl there -- sings "The Star-Spangled Banner" for him! The other girls gather around to see who it is. Andy looks kind of embarrassed for her, but everyone gives her a rousing round of applause when she finishes and he admits it touched the patriot in him.
Danielle I. tells Andy that she believes in fate, especially a psychic's prediction that her third boyfriend would be the one. And, she's already two boyfriends -- one of whom passed away -- so she's ready. She's established a scholarship fund for her late boyfriend, just as Andy set up a fund for his late uncle. He says he was raised to give back, and that "third time's the charm" could be true for her. Unfortunately Catherine, who's also there, doesn't get the chance to make as big an impression.
Andy invites Tiffany W. to join him downstairs and while they're chatting, Stephanie T. spies him below and says, "Hey, Andy. You should come back inside!"
Inside, Lindsay wonders aloud why Stephanie T. got the first rose. Privately, she opines that Stephanie is "heinous," adding that she deserved the first rose since she's "so much cuter."
When Stephanie T. comes back in, Lindsay asks her directly, "Why did you get a rose?"
She demurs, saying she got lucky and Lindsay says, "Yeah, luck. That's gotta be what it is."
To the camera, Tiffany F. describes Lindsay as "a bomb waiting to go off."
Alone with Andy, Tessa tells him why she decided to come on the show: Her mom met her second husband on a hike when he came to their aid, and that maybe she should go out on a limb to find love as well.
Back in the house, Blakeney appears to be more than a little drunk and takes a tumble on the wooden floors, to Lindsay's great amusement.
Blakeney is annoyed at her and Lindsay, sensing she's been dissed, loudly announces, "You wanna say something? You can come over here and say it." Blakeney stays put so Lindsay marches over to confront her. Blakeney shrugs it off, saying she thought it was funny too, and she's able to laugh at herself.
Andy sits down with Nicole and Peyton and Peyton reveals that it's her birthday and then Andy admits it's his birthday too! The women are thrilled and announce the news of the double birthday. The group is excited, but also discouraged because it seems Peyton is now guaranteed to get a rose.
Nicole is upset that she hasn't had an one-on-one time with Andy, so she comes up with a plan to impress him. She's going to make him a birthday cake! She recruits Tiffany W. to help her out. There's only one problem: No eggs! But she improvises, using tequila instead.
Linda, who says she's "OCD" about her workouts, challenges Andy to a push-up competition. Lindsay is next. She hikes up her skirt and does squats. Candace looks on, horrified. Kate takes it to the next level -- turning push-ups into a sexy fishlike maneuver across the floor.
Stephanie W. tops them all by doing a series of flips out to the balcony and somehow manages to keep from inadvertently flashing Andy. She lands on the bench seat and Andy scoops her up into a hug.
Nicole and Tiffany W. emerge with a very messy two-layer cake but Andy declares it the most beautiful cake he's every seen. He makes a wish and blows out the three candles. He leads the ladies in a toast "to love."
Host Chris arrives and announces it's time for the rose ceremony. Kate is sure she won't be getting a rose since she never had any one-on-one time with Andy.
He has only 15 roses to give out, which means 10 women will be going home immediately. Stephanie T. already has hers and Andy gives the remaining 14 roses to:
Peyton
Bevin
Kate
Alexis
Danielle I.
Amber
Tiffany W.
Tessa
Nicole
Susan
Amanda
Erin
Tina
Stephanie W.
Before Andy has a chance to address the women who are going home, Lindsay marches out in a huff, announcing that she's done, she wants to go home. She starts cursing, saying she didn't have a chance since she doesn't have blonde hair and fake boobs. Then she starts running Andy down, declaring that "he's short and his head is big and his teeth look fake." The other girls are horrified, but she doesn't shut up, instead, declaring, "I'm a pregnant dog. I don't care." She pronounces the whole thing "fake and stupid."
Inside, oblivious to the drama, Andy and his 15 Bachelorettes toast to the adventure ahead.
