You're A Rat.
We relive the merge, the party, the vomiting, and the careful planning of Aitu in order to overcome their numbers deficit. We watch as Nate goes down the walk of shame and then proceeds to carry on about what a horrible person Jonathan is. There are 8 tribe members left. It is night 27.
Jonathan explains to Candace on the way back to camp that he had to do what he did because it would have been him leaving tonight if he hadn't. He still may go the next week, but in order to stay, he was forced into voting the way he did. Yul and Sundra are relieved that Jonathan actually did what he promised and the vote came down as planned. Parvati is quick to tell Jonathan that she is disappointed and that he is vile and that it makes her feel sick to her stomach. Jonathan tries again to explain that the vote would have bounced off Yul (because of the immunity idol) and he would have gone home. Parvati rolls her eyes and says, "Yul does not have the immunity idol."
Jonathan says, "Yul DOES have the immunity idol, he showed it to me." They stare at him blankly. It's obvious that Candace, Adam and Parvati do not believe him. He says that it's obvious they don't trust him and they admit it. He's a dirty miserable rat.
My Scott thinks that the reason that everyone is so hard on Jonathan is that he sounds exactly like Alan Alda in those movie rolls where he is a shifty snide character. If you close your eyes when he talks, you can actually see Alan Alda speaking his words. Whatever the reason, Parvati, Adam and Candace are furious with him, and in reality, what he has said is true....he really had no choice but to flip again.
Sundra is gutting a fish as Parvati looks on, astounded and grossed out at the same time. Jonathan is amazed that at 28 days, Parvati has never gutted a fish, nor has she even seen a fish gutted. He adds that winning a million dollars would not help her in her life, but would ruin her even worse than she is now.
Jonathan tells Yul and the others that he is glad to have made the move back to that group. He says he came over to Raro and it was like being in the "clown house."
Reward
It's the Survivor Auction. They each receive $500 in 20s. They may loan or give each other money but they cannot share any food purchased at the auction. The auction will end without warning.
First item is a covered dish. Jonathan starts bidding. Parvati is surprised that they do not know what the item is. Jonathan wins the item for $100. It's a hot dog, fries, and a cold beer. Jonathan actually spills a bunch of his beer sitting down.
The next item is a hot bubble bath in a bathtub and a huge piece of chocolate cake. Jonathan bids on this item primarily to drive up the price and make the girls spend more of their money. Parvati wins at $360. She has a brush, loofa, etc. and cake. She climbs in and starts to scrub.
Jeff then produces an envelope. The item is an item of power in the game. Candace bids everything she has, but then Yul lends Becky money and she bids $600. Parvati, from the tub, asks loudly "Why do you need that, Becky? Y'all have the numbers." The Raro group is still chafing from losing their position of power. Becky does not respond. Candace borrows money from Adam to continue bidding on the item but Becky prevails with $640.
Becky receives the envelope and opens it to read. It says, "You must send one person to exile island immediately and take all their remaining money for yourself." Everyone reacts, Aitu and Jonathan with glee, Raro with groans. Jeff asks Becky to choose who to exile. Yul reminds Becky that both Adam and Candace have $500. She chooses Candace.
Jeff reminds Candace that it isn't all bad since there is still the possibility of finding the immunity idol on exile island but Candace says she thinks she knows where it is. At this point Yul interjects, "I can end the suspense." Parvati, still in the tub turns quickly to look at Yul. Candace is sitting on the benches and turns to stare at Yul. Yul says, "I have it."
Jeff asks Yul if he brought the immunity idol with him and he says it's in his bag. He produces the idol and shows it to Parvati in the tub. Jeff wonders why Yul wanted to make it public at this point that he has the idol and Yul explains how the idol had helped him turn the numbers to his favor last tribal council. Candace is forced to give Becky her money and is shuffled off to exile island.
The auction continues with an unending supply of ice cream. There is a soft serve ice cream machine and a stack of cones. The winner of the item will be able to eat from the ice cream machine for as long as the auction continues. Jonathan bids $400 but Ozzy (who Jeff refers to as "Dolphin Boy") wins the item with a bid of $420. He goes over to the machine and tries to fill a cone and it spits ice cream all over his pants. He then puts his face under the spigot and fills his mouth with ice cream and grins.
Next Jonathan bids on and wins a pepperoni pizza. He makes a big deal eating it. Sundra then bids on and wins a sea cucumber from their own beach. Jonathan spends the last of his money to buy toothpaste, toothbrush and mouthwash. Yul says, "if that's the last item, I'm going to jump off a bridge." Jeff immediately declares the auction closed. Fortunately, I haven't seen any bridges on the island.
Sometimes the pictures we see as the show comes back out of commercial mean something. Like you will often see a snake if there's some betrayal going on in the next segment, or a spider in a web if there's some sneaky intrigue. The scene we see coming out of the post reward auction commercial segment is a large eel explosively projectile barfing up a fish it had just eaten. I'm not sure what that means.
Day 29. Jonathan is talking about the food he got at the auction. He says he's much thirstier for having eaten the food. He belches loudly and Becky says "whew" as the aroma smashes into her from across camp. There is some comment about how obnoxious Jonathan is acting, his eating, his being thingyy and arrogant. Parvati encourages this sort of thinking with Adam and then with Becky and Sundra. She says that if Jonathan makes final four, she would shoot herself. He just doesn't deserve it.
Sundra said he was a little too thingyy and showed a little too much of his true personality and Yul concurs. Jonathan knows that Parvati and Adam are working against him but he isn't sure how far this has gotten with Yul and the alliance.
Candace sits weeping on exile island. She feels she is next on the chopping block and must win immunity. She wishes she didn't feel so down because it may hurt her chances in the challenge.
Day 30, Tree Mail.
When were we rolled in a barrel?
We merged how many days ago?
All these key moments remembered,
Now become crucial to know.
Your past will affect your future.
Stay calm, but you better hurry.
Take too long or things don't add up;
You might be the next on the jury.
Adam says he doesn't like Jonathan or what he stands for so it's important that he win immunity. I'm not sure how that computes since the others can vote off Candace or Parvati just as easily as Adam and they aren't likely at this point to vote Jonathan out.
The challenge is in two stages. The first stage, they must answer four questions about past events on the island. The answers will be numbers. They must then do a calculation based on those numbers. For example if the four answers are 4532, with the signs to add, subtract, multiply or divide placed between them on the answer area might produce the equation 4+5/3+2 = 5. The answer to the equation corresponds to the number on one box out of a group of boxes that are tied shut. They must untie the knots and take a package from inside the box and unwrap the package. If they have answered the questions correctly and performed the math properly, there will be a key inside. The key can be used to open a lock which will allow them to raise a flag. The first three to raise their flags will continue on to the second round.
1) The total number of pieces used to construct the stepping stones for the fifth immunity challenge used to transport tribe members from one platform to the next. (12)
That answer is added to:
2) The number of plaster boxes to be smashed by each tribe with a club to retrieve keys in the challenge to win the catalog reward. (9)
Then subtract:
3) The number of days since the Aitu tribe mutiny including today. (10)
And subtract:
4) The number of people currently in the jury. (4)
Parvati is the first one to correctly answer and raise her flag. Adam, Jonathan and Candace find their keys almost at the same moment, but Adam and Jonathan are the first to raise their flags. Adam, Parvati and Jonathan will advance to round 2.
Round two starts the same as round one. There are four questions that lead to a key. This time, however, the key unlocks the gate to a wooden tunnel. After crawling through the tunnel, they must untie knots to open the other end. Once through the tunnel, they proceed to a series of floating pontoons to a platform where they must raise a flag. First person to complete the course wins immunity.
1) The number of immunity challenges so far including this one. (
Plus:
2) The number of survivors at tribal council during the lamb shank feast.
Divided by:
3) The number of underwater flags collected from the barrel rolling competition.
Adam is the first to find his key and move on to the wooden tunnel. He is through the tunnel and untying the knots at the end. Adam is making quick work of the course, and is soon across the pontoons, literally crawling on his belly. He is thrilled to win immunity. Again, I'm not sure why, unless he assumed that the old Aitu group was going to vote him off unless he had immunity and that then they would vote off Jonathan instead. At this point, Candace and Parvati seem to be in the most danger.
Back in camp, Candace knows that she is probably on the chopping block. She says it's upsetting to her that she will be leaving the game before Jonathan when even his own alliance feels he is a snake. Adam starts in on the Aitu group telling them that Jonathan is a snake. The Raro girls join in saying that they just don't want to go before Jonathan. Jonathan returns with fish and suggests that if someone started a fire they could cook the fish.
Yul tries to explain his reasoning to Parvati. This is a lot like me explaining double entry accounting principles to my cat. She interrupts him to announce what she wants again. Apparently she functions under the principle that if she is not being granted her every wish, she hasn't made that wish clear enough so she repeats that wish until the idiot who is failing to succumb to her wiles gives in to her. Yul stops her and asks her to let him finish. She rolls her eyes. Obviously Yul does NOT know the Parvati rules for the game.
Yul explains that he can anticipate what Jonathan is going to do. He says that Jonathan, in his game play, is selfish and rational. Yul understands this and can predict what he is going to do and that therefore he does not want to immediately get rid of him.
Adam goes for the old jugular saying that Yul needs to remember that Adam, Candace and Parvati will be on the jury. He says that if Yul will get Jonathan out first, then the three of them will vote for Yul when they are on the jury. They say that Yul is the ringleader and that if he refuses to vote Jonathan out first, they will not vote for him on the jury. Yul says he really can't even address any of that right now.
Jonathan returns to the group and picks up some chopped up coconut and begins to eat. Parvati says, "I was eating that." Jonathan puts it back down and then Adam tells him to go ahead and take it. It is obviously an awkward moment. Jonathan has walked up on them while Yul was telling them that he would NOT vote Jonathan out to please them and Jonathan knows they were campaigning for him to be sent home.
Jonathan says he will go get firewood so they can cook some fish. He knows they were all percolating and he's beginning to get angry.
Adam, Parvati and Candace go lay down in the shelter to cuddle, laughing and giggling as they snuggle and smooch. Jonathan is angry, no doubt about it. Finally he says to the rest of the tribe, "Do we have to feed them this fish?" Ozzy says he doesn't feel there is an ethical question about it because there is no such thing as a free lunch. Yul and Sundra make a point of thanking Jonathan for the fish.
About this time, Adam notices that the others are eating and nobody bothered to tell he and Candace and Parvati that it was dinner time. Candace is horrified. "That is WRONG." She heads out to where the others are finishing their food. "Since when did you guys decide not to share food? That is so arrogant and so rude. I just don't believe this."
Jonathan says, "well, after you called me a disgusting rat..."
Candace says, "Jonathan you are a rat because you betrayed everyone in this game. Even Yul said this afternoon that you are selfish and he can tell what you are going to do because you will always do what's best for you and..."
Yul interrupts to tell Candace not to speak for him, that he will speak for himself, thank you.
Candace tells Jonathan that NONE of the people there like him and they have all said so.
Jonathan says, "Let's talk about this meal. We all came back from..."
Candace jumps in again, "Everybody has their days when they lay down in the tent."
"That's bullocks!" Jonathan is having none of it. "I work I disagree off every single day."
"That's because you want to weasel your way in..." Candace sneers.
"Luckily, you're not name calling, I appreciate that." replies Jonathan.
She continues by explaining that "weasel" is a verb and Jonathan cuts her off by saying, "How dare you. How dare you imply that I'm behaving differently today than I have for 30 days out here. That's just not true." He finally dismisses her by telling her she has said more than enough to suit him, thank you very much.
I am so disgusted by the Raro trio. Seriously, whiny babies. It's just not fun for them now that they aren't in power.
Yul discusses with Becky how he can insulate himself from the jury. He is concerned that they are all going to be upset with him. I'm not sure why he is so concerned. First off, we all know that jury members will swear they will never vote for this person or that person and that then when the time comes to actually cast the vote, they change their minds about half of the time. Also, there are four people on that jury right now, three of which are very unhappy with the Raro group. Nate is the only one that is likely to stick with the other Raro folk in deciding who to vote for and after the Raro trio is gone, the rest of the people going to the jury are going to be people who are very tight with Yul.
Becky helps him work through the numbers. Yul says that if they vote Jonathan off now, they would still be in control and at least they wouldn't hate him, but Becky seemed to feel that if they get their way now, they will come back next time and say, if you don't vote this person or that person out, we'll not vote for you in the end.
The sun sets and the tribe makes its way to tribal council. The jury arrives, Brad, Rebecca, Nate and Jenny.
Jeff asks about Becky sending Candace to exile island for the fourth time at the auction. Becky says she was sent because she is a fierce competitor. He comments that she always comes back smiling. She says she just tries to keep her spirits up.
The fish incident comes up. Ozzy says that after he got the firewood and Jonathan got the fish, it became a huge ordeal because the others didn't get to eat the fish. Candace says that they didn't SHARE the fish. Parvati says they didn't invite them to dinner, basically. She says that Adam and Candace and she are on the outside, and so they went to lay down for a while and then Jonathan didn't want to share the fish that he caught.
Adam says that everyone but Jonathan was probably OK with them eating the fish and having gone to lay down for a while. He says he hasn't talked to Jonathan so he's not sure. Jeff asks if the two of them aren't speaking. Adam says he doesn't like Jonathan. Parvati jumps in and says that it's interesting that the more secure Jonathan becomes in his position in the game, the more his true colors show.
Jonathan says now it's all starting to come out. You have five people working and three that never do any work. At what point do the five people working decide that the three people not working and just waiting for the dinner bell calling them to come and be fed, at what point do they decide that it's not appropriate.
Candace says it's an arrogance thing. They have the numbers, and they figure that we're going down and they think "we don't have to feed you." She says that all of them have said they don't like Jonathan.
Adam jumps back in, "you're a rat, there's no reason for you to be around." Adam continues to taunt Jonathan.
Jeff suggests that there is a tribe of 3, a tribe of 4, and Jonathan. Yul says that's not the case and Jeff laughs, saying that of course Yul would say that, he's like the UN.
Yul says that of course, when they tell the Raro people things, they are going to tell them in a way that serves the purposes of the Aitu group, so you can't take them at their word when they say that nobody likes Jonathan.
Parvati takes issue with that. "It's like we're all puppets in his little play."
Yul is exasperated. "What do you want me to do? We're all here trying to win. You can't fault me for that."
Adam says, "Well, you'd have a lot more respect from us and from the people on the jury if you cut loose your cancer you've got on your team." This devolves into a long list of whines by the Raro trio, ending with Parvati describing their demise as "Boom, boom, boom. Sittin' ducks."
I have to interject here. If I were Yul and if, for one moment, I had considered sending Jonathan out of the game tonight, I would now absolutely refuse because of the childishness of this little group of whiny brats and I would tell them that "boom boom boom sittin' ducks" it is then. Sore loser doesn't even cover it.
Jeff asks Jonathan how he feels. He says he feels fine because now he is a better position than he was in with the Raro people. Candace says that the jury needs to know what's really going on around camp and it's been pretty ugly. I guess that is supposed to make them all hate Jonathan too.
They vote.
Parvati, Adam and Candace vote for Jonathan.
Jonathan, Yul, Becky, Sundra, and Ozzy vote for Candace. Candace is history. Boom. I guess now it will just be "boom boom sittin' ducks."
Adam and Candace embrace and he kisses her long and hard.
As she steps up to have her torch snuffed, Jeff says, "The kiss was nice. Maybe if it was love, he would have given you the immunity necklace."
She grins stupidly, missing the point.
Jeff says that the council spoke for itself and they head back to camp.
Next week, Parvati hacks into her hand with the machete. Jonathan contemplates if the wound is bad enough to send her home. He also pressures Yul who says he feels like the Godfather arranging hits on people.
We relive the merge, the party, the vomiting, and the careful planning of Aitu in order to overcome their numbers deficit. We watch as Nate goes down the walk of shame and then proceeds to carry on about what a horrible person Jonathan is. There are 8 tribe members left. It is night 27.
